Made in the USA and NSF certified
We bought four different brands of sandwich spreaders to replace plastic spreaders. The brands were Mercer Culinary Millenia, New Star Foodservice, RSVP International Endurance, and Dexter -Russell Sani-Safe Series. Only the Dexter-Russell was made in the USA. The others were made in China. The Mercer was ordered with a smooth edge which was cheaper at the time than the curvy edge. Like Dexter, Mercer was NSF certified. The others had the cutting edge, but the picture shows the cutting area for the Dexter-Russell is about twice that of the other two. The New Star Foodservice was the least sharp but felt more comfortable to hold. To me, the RSVP was the nicest looking and had no plastic. These are just out of the box, but if I were to see them in a store, I would’ve purchased only the RSVP and Dexter based on personal preference. Both brands have served us well in the past as has Mercer. We have no experience with the New Star Foodservices brand. The Dexter had slightly lower customer review results, but what makes it preferable to me are the NSF marking, the high temperature polypropylene sani-safe handle, and being made in the USA.Other spreaders we used for years include Mundial, Tramontina, Good Grips, and Zyliss. Of those only the Mundial had the NSF marking. It was made in Brazil as was the Tramontina. Both were good quality, but better if hand washed.. The Good Grips was OK with a comfortable handle. The Zyliss was good until the handle started to crack. All had good cutting edges.Only if the Dexter spreader rusts from soaking and use of a dishwasher (as mentioned by other reviewers) will the 5 star rating change.

Very good
Expensive but happy with this because it's everything it should be:1) It's made in the U.S., which means the stainless steel is more likely to be pure stainless steel and not alloyed with lead, for example.2) Much easier to spread hummus on toast than with a table knife, as should be the case.3) The serrated edge cuts quite well, better than my serrated knife. For example, it cuts right through over-ripe grape tomatoes without squishing them.

A very well designed spreader from a very good manufacturer
I have an ancient, wooden-handled spreader where the tang is starting to corrode. I decided to replace it with the Dexter-Russell spreader because I have a scraper from this same manufacturer, and it is an essential part of my kitchen. The blade on this spreader is full encased in a dishwasher-safe polypropylene handle. There is a serrated edge for easily cutting a sandwich in half. The blade seems to stain a bit easier than my old spreader, but a toss in the dishwasher restores it to its original luster.I'm pleased with my purchase, and suspect that it will outlive me!

Love My Spreader!
These are great for many things, but I use them mainly for making sandwiches. You need a longer one for frosting cakes, but this size makes it so easy to get into a jar and get condiments and also spread them easily. I have been sold on this size for many years. They come in handy often. Good to have 2 or 3 of them in your kitchen.
