Heavy, Great Useful Bread Oven/Baking Dish/Dutch Oven

Heavy. Looks good, time will tell on the coating. What impressed me was the included manual with recipes and measurements for the dutch ovens. Even the big guys don't do that. So you don't have to guess your first time using. Also color pictures. I have the new oblong LC bread oven, and their round bread oven. Neither came with any recipes although their website has some. The oblong is exclusive to QVC until late Feb so the LC site has no recipes for it. LC is lighter but not by much. This is heavy about 15 lbs. I have many sizes of bread ovens, one for the size this one will make. This is perfect for bread bowls. The enamel coating appears to be quality. i would not wash in dishwasher as it does affect the finish due to the chemicals in the pods etc. It will clean up nicely with the care as for all high end enameled cast iron cookware/bakeware. Very functional for many dishes. 2 different types of mac and cheese. Scalloped potatoes one side and meatloaf on the other. Be creative. Put some olive oil inside and spread around with a paper towel. Don't use sprays as they contain additives that may not come off your investment. Read the manual, don't assume anything. This a unique nice pot that can serve many purposes. Time will tell on chip resistance which always to me separates low from hi end. But there again I have had LC chip, break when dropped, and some older pieces rust. It depends on how they are cared for by us owners. Don't expect stuff to not burn if you use high heat when cooking. Take care of these and they will pass down to other family members.

Great for baking bread bowls and multiple other purposes. Baked bread doesn't have to be sour dough.

I am 79 years old and have quite a lot of experience with baking sour dough and other Artisan breads using home milled flours and long fermentation methods. I stopped maintaining a sour dough starter since I was using more flour to maintain the starter than what I used for baking bread. Since then, I have used flour milled from whole grains and the long fermentation method with excellent results without having to maintain a starter. That being said, this loaf pan does not need to be used only with sour dough bread, but works well with any bread recipe including long fermentations breads or even regular bread recipes. I do recommend that the bread bowl are oiled for easy cleanup and to reduce sticking. In my experience, I have found that humidity is required for the initial oven spring that raises the loaves in the first 10-15 minutes of baking. This can be done by spritzing the sides of the oven every 7 minutes or placing a pan of water in the oven. With this baker, the humidity required for oven spring is maintained with the domed cover. This is so much less messy than the other two methods. This baker is heavy, but that is to be expected from any cookware mad of cast iron. At this point, I believe the quality of this baker is equivalent to the more expensive brands which I have. I found it interesting that I ordered this baker in orange since I didn't want to wait for the extended shipping time of the red one, but the baker I got is exactly the same color as the red domed baker I ordered from the same maker.Since I have to allow for storage space for any cookware I buy, I need think about how a product can be useful for multiple purposes. My first thoughts were the size of this baker would be perfect to make bread bowl for soup or stew, but they would also work for making individual pot pies or small loaves of bread to be used for one meal. The uses are really left to your imagination. Considering the prices of the name brands and the quality of this baker, I believe it is a great value for the money.UPDATE 01/30/26Although I really do love the functionality and look of this bread baker, I opted to return it in favor of 4 20 oz. cast iron mini Dutch ovens that I found. Granted, the cast iron Dutch ovens need to be seasoned multiple times to make them nonstick, but they require less storage space and more uses since they can be used individually in the oven or on the stove top. I still believe this bread baker is a great buy, but I have to think about storage space and functionality of products that I buy. In addition, this baker is great if you intend to make 2 loaves or whatever else you cook in it. It is not convenient if you want to bake or cook only one of a recipe.I hope this review was helpful for you.

Perfect except for one thing

This has been my favorite investment so far on my bread making journey. The only reason I took off a star is because I just noticed, after only five bakes, the enamel on the handles of this Dutch oven are already chipping. I don’t know why. I hand wash it very gently and store it carefully, so there should be no reason why this part is already showing signs of wear. Now I’m a little concerned about how well this Dutch oven will hold up over time. For now, however, it is a great addition to my kitchen. I use it more than my full-size Dutch oven. It bakes the perfect little boules for chowder and soups. It also makes the perfect size loaf for giving away to friends. I use this one to try new recipes so that I don’t have too much waste if it doesn’t work out well. Each loaf is just the right size for a single person to finish in 1-2 sittings. I also appreciate how the enamel color turns darker when the Dutch oven is heated up. This helps me gauge when it’s ready to pop my dough in, as well as when it is safe to handle without oven mitts. Like I said, it would’ve been an easy five star if not for the chipping of the handles after barely 2 weeks of use.
