Silicone Edge Protection Mat for Kitchen Countertops
The Friheten Edge Protection Silicone Mat for Kitchen Countertops is an interesting product that works well in my kitchen. The silicone mat protects my countertop and provides a clean and non-slip surface.Measuring about 40 cm deep and 69 cm long the mat consists of a thin translucent silicone with a molded edge lip. This lip is a bit thicker than the mat material and is molded so it will attempt to fold back, thus keeping it in contact with the edge of the counter. The translucent material blends in well with the underlying countertop. I found that with lighter, white tops it almost becomes invisible. The mat is designed to protect the base countertop and also has some useful features. The mat is not slippery, instead having a significant grip. This may take you by surprise the first time you set down an item and instead of slipping it just sticks. This stick does make it tough to dry wipe crumbs. The mat sticks well to the countertop and shows no signs of curling. The mat material is flexible and thin. It is so thin that I would not expect it to be a good heat barrier. Thus make sure to always use an additional heat barrier. Also it will not do well with knives and will cut. However I found that if I placed a cutting mat on the surface protector, that cutting sheet stuck like glue and was much easier to use than on the bare countertop.I found the primary use for the mat to be protection of the base countertop, ease of cleaning and anti-slip surface. It has been well received by the other cook in the house. Recommended.

Soft silicone mat
I bought this thinking it would be great if it doubled as a cutting board. When it came I was surprised to see it was rolled up in a box. I’m on the fence with this one so here’s the pros and cons.Cons:*It is not as thick as I thought it would be as a counter protector.*With as soft as the silicone is, I don’t think it will protect the counters from heat.* It definitely does not have cutting board capabilities.* It doesn’t fit well if your counter has anything but a simple straight corner cut on the front. (Ours is an ogee cut).* Unless you’re wiping the mat down where it is, it can be awkward to wash.Pros:*It does have a nice drop down edge protection that is a little harder than the softer part that sits on the counter. I believe it will work for that purpose.* The softer silicone keeps the mat from slipping around.* The mat would be good for some of our small appliances that move while in use.* our countertops are a resin heavy quartz type material that isn’t supposed to have any heated appliances on it. This will do for the electric frying pan to sit on.*the mat is a light unobtrusive color so it doesn’t look like additional clutter on the counter. If I was in a store and looking for a product to protect my counters, I’m not sure this would have been what I would have been searching for. It will do the trick for a few things, it just doesn’t live up to the claims the seller made.

Soft but substantial countertop protection. Awesome for our prep area!
Having recently lost my older, thinner silicone mat, I’ve been searching for a new one. So far this is absolutely perfect for my needs. It offers plenty of space and it’s nice, thicker silicone than I even hoped for. It’s soft and flexible and provides perfect protection for my counters. I noticed no “plastic” smell whatsoever immediately after receiving it which was great, though I washed it before use as I do any item that will be in potential contact with our food. It’s been great on our prep area so far and I hope to eventually be able to use it for bread shaping, though the slight texture of the silicone makes me think it may be a bit too “grippy” for that. I’ll definitely update once I have the dough ready to shape in a few days. Thus far it’s just been so useful for everything else. It’s great for keeping vegetable or fruit juice from reaching the counter and potentially damaging it, and I really like the lip that hangs over the counter edge because it keeps the entire area free from any contamination off the counters. What I love is that our counters are a busy granite with dark veining that can really hide food crumbs, and this does a great job at keeping the crumbs off the counter in the first place which is a fantastic first step!

Good protection for glass table tops
I have a kitchen cart with a tempered glass top. Tempered glass is strong, but it will shatter into thousands of pieces if you manage to penetrate the outer surface, like just putting a nick on an edge. This mat is useful for helping to prevent that damage. This is lighter, thinner and more supple than other silicone mats I've tried. Translucent white color is neutral and has a sanitary look. It also gives a bit of grip so cutting boards, bowls and plates don't slip around, which was a problem with the bare glass.Cleaning is easy. Just wipe it off if it's lightly soiled. Or take it over to the sink and use a faucet sprayer if it needs a bit more cleaning. It can be a little hard to handle because of its size, though. Another option is to wipe it down with isopropyl alcohol (use 70%; it disinfects better than 91%, which evaporates too quickly), which should remove oil and also sanitize the surface, without leaving any chemical residue. The alcohol will just evaporate after a few minutes. This should be good for rolling out dough.
