nice and long to prevent steam in my face
I got this thermometer today and tested it. it works as expected. I have trouble seeing so i keep putting my face right over the steam and heat. i go the longest thermometer to prevent myself from putting my face too close to the heat. The dial could be bigger. I still have trouble reading the tiny marks between the numbers. My old thermometer had digital and the batteries no longer work. I believe the steam and humidity may have destroyed it. So I am going all analog now. No steam was inside the dial so it seems to be waterproof. The clip that holds it in a pot slides and works well if I need it. It stands out and I can see it very well at a glance. It is fairly easy to use. Seems durable because I have had thermometers like this before for chemistry and they last a long time if taken care of properly.

Generic, okay, not the most accurate
This was a low cost analog thermometer. It is off by 4-5 degree Fahrenheits. You also need to keep the notch in the medium to have more accurate reading. The notch is about 10 cm from the tip. I didn't expect it to be extremely accurate since many reviews recommended a digital to be within a few degrees. I wanted a low cost meter with a long probe, which was exactly what this is. It didn't experience fog and condensation inside the glass. Maybe because I didn't use to it to measure deep fried oil, or foods that produced a lot steam or evaporation. I used it to measure milk and whipping cream from low to medium heat on the stove. The milk for making froth. It did let me know that it was getting within the range of 144-150 degrees F, so I can remove the milk from the stove. I also used it on a special heavy whipping cream to make Mascarpone cheese. This process needed to be a little more precise in temperature, but it was fine in about 70% of the time. The long probe was a little clumsy for my purpose, so only buy this if you really need the long probe. I found out that I really didn't need the long probe.

Great for Turkey Pots
My dad made turkey pots to be able to deep fry turkeys for Thanksgiving and Christmas for our family get togethers and uses the thermometers to check the oil temp. After dropping his last one in the hot oil and not being able to use it anymore, we started looking for a replacement. I ordered this to see how well they would work and they are perfect. The length is great and the temperature is accurate when we tested it with another thermometer. The temp is easy to read and the thermometer is easy to clean.
