Very handy as you don't have to be so vigilant with timekeeping on the egg boiling process. Doesn't matter what temperature water you start with as long as timer starts at same temperature as eggs.

These egg timers are cute. One looks sweet sitting on a cooktop. I’ve always wanted one!I suppose they work. They give at least a good indication of doneness with a glance.My only issue with that is more centered on me than on the gadgets. I don’t do well watching pots. I’m comfortable with several ways of hard boiling eggs that do not involve checking pots.For that reason they are more decorative than useful to me.What I think is magical is to teach a a child the hard boil process, using this egg timer as a visual training clue.
It’s so simple yet so effective. My kids like soft eggs, and this makes me get them right every time, without paying attention to the boiling water.
