I have an espresso machine and recently got into watching people make espresso in short videos. One lady had a tamper like this and I thought it was the coolest thing.It allows me to get a very good tamp on my grounds without a lot of effort. It makes pulling a great shot super simple.The item isn't overly heavy, but is obviously well built, and it's easy to clean, just wipe and go. Works great!
The more I use this tamper, the more I appreciate how well it works. I didn't think I really needed this but I was having a hard time getting my grounds volume consistent in my machine. The regular tamper was "OK" but I wanted better results. I got this, opened the box and gave it a look. I wasn't sure how this was going to work. I just used it and the first time it gave me a better result than I ever got with a regular tamper. It got even better from there. This thing saves me time and gives me better shots. My pucks come out in one piece usually now. This is a very well made tool. It isn't a toy. When I press down on it the coffee grounds just spread out to an even perfection previously unattained. If you use a bottomless portafilter you probably need this.
I really like this tamper. I have a standard handle tamper which works well enough but there's increased room for bad tamps with that style of tool. I selected this option due to the varying depth and the textured tamper surface. First off, this is heavy and solid - which is great. It looks nice and fuctions exactly as expected. I'm not really sure if there's any benefit to the textured tamping surface but it tamps evenly and is just a no brainer. I highly recommend if you're looking for a similar style tool for your espressos.
This perfectly fits my 54mm portafilter. I selected this specific tamper because I wanted one that was easy to use and didn't cause any additional hand strain. I think this may be an ideal tamper for anyone with repetitive hand injuries or someone with arthritis.This is substantially heavier than any other tamper I've used, but it's easy to handle thanks to the textured grip around the outside. The overall quality is quite nice and what I would expect from a high end product. This is very easy to clean by using a small cloth or brush to remove remaining grounds.The overall function is exactly what I was looking for and as a bonus, I get to create a little Zen garden with my coffee grounds every morning.
Personally I wasn't sure on this tamper because of the way it is designed. Not like most typical tampers. To my surprise this works phenomenal! There isn't much to be said because it is just a tamper. The price is affordable and its sleek! I'd recommend for sure!
We recently picked up a Bambino and in doing research knew a quality tamper was a must to replace the garbage one included with the machine. Enter this one from carrottimes. The first thing I noticed is the heft and weight of this tamper. This thing is robust and feels solid in your hand! The machining is clean The tamping motion is smooth without any metallic interference making it very easy to use. It fits perfectly on a 54mm Portafilter and leaves a nice spiral in one firm motion. At the price point, this thing punches way above it’s weight.
This works much better than another tamper I got which is the common plastic one with the skinny base to hold it by. I’ve been able to use it as an initial tamper when I have my dosing funnel attached and trying to get the grounds down. It works best though on the portafilter itself. Provides a nice clean tamp of the grounds and the pattern is a bonus.I love the heavy metal feel and the spring drive which makes it easy to tamp but also feel when you’ve gotten it down enough. Very well made overall.
