I combined it with a second mat
I had a very specific use case for this mat. I wanted a tamping station to be exactly the right height so I can sit the handle of my bottomless portafilter on the counter and the body of the portafilter level on the mat. This mat thickness is around 6mm thick. I stack it on top of another similar sized mat from Watchget that is 10mm thick. With the two combined my portafilter sits perfectly flat, making it ideal for my WDT, distributor, and tamp work.

Thick and resilient silicone mat
There's not too much to say about this simple product. It's a silicone mat made for protecting the surface and edge of your counter when doing the pressing of coffee grounds for an espresso machine. Pretty focused task. The mat is made of silicone, with a very matte surface texture. It's designed to fit perfectly on the sharp, 90-degree edge of a counter. If your countertop doesn't have a sharp edge this will not sit firmly, and would probably flop around if you pressed on the edge if the mat that hangs over the lip of the counter. There are no grooves or any kind of pattern molded into the top surface, so if you were hoping to just use this as a generic "coffee" mat, it's not really very suited to catching spilled powders or liquids. The liquids especially would quickly run off the silicone surface in one direction or another. Not quite as quickly as if this had a glossy smooth surface, but I'm just saying that this mat has the very specific purpose of preventing dents or scrape marks on your counter from some task like espresso tamping, especially the edge, and keeping things quiet. To do that, it didn't need any surface patterns akin to a car floor mat, technically.I would expect the silicone material to last quite a while, and it shouldn't leave stains on the counter like what you might expect from a big slab of solid (stinky) neoprene rubber, for instance. Being silicone, there's really no odor. Easy to clean, as well. Which you may want to do fairly often, because of the black color and matte texture, that will take a temporary visible mark from any kind of dry material that it encounters while in use.Since it's just one solid molded piece of flexible silicone, and quite thick (just shy of a quarter inch), I don't think there will be much of an issue with the 90-degree corner cracking or separating from the main plane of the mat.Of course I am going to just use it as a casual coffee mat clinging to the sharp, flat side edge of my kitchen island counter (the main edge of the counter is super rounded and totally unsuitable for this mat style). It will protect my counter from heat, hot water, tea and coffee stains, and add some non-slip when I'm using an AeroPress on the counter to fill a mug. I'll just have to be careful to not spill much when filling a mug with hot water from the kettle, to top off an AeroPress pour or make tea. It's not the intended primary purpose, but it may be a lot better than the small trivet I was using, which tended to move around too easily, and was only about half the size of this nice silicone mat. There are other similar tamping/espresso or general coffee area mats that don't have the edge piece this has, and do have patterns molded in the surface, that are more suitable for a table or counter where the edge is not a sharp 90-degree bend and flat vertical surface going down. But for a sharp edged counter that needs to handle some impacts and hard pressing operations like espresso tamping, this should do nicely.

Thick and sturdy! Also easy to clean
I like this tamping mat, it offers a soft resistance that keeps my counter safe from my ham-handed tamping.Rinses easily of the crud that finds itself on my mat.Not too big, but I like the size as it doesn't feel like it'll take over my kitchen.Thick, works great which protects my counter from my previously mentioned ham-handing of tamping, as well as reducing the noise of pressing down, which isn't usually loud but my husband is a very light sleeper. Dampens the sound of the press! The price is reasonable for what you get!

Surprisingly Heavy-Duty and Built to Last
When I first ordered this accessory for my home espresso setup, I was managing my expectations. It is often difficult to judge the quality of materials through online photos, and I have purchased similar items in the past that turned out to be flimsy or lightweight. However, this product completely surprised me the moment I took it out of the package. The first thing you will notice is the material quality. This is incredibly thick silicone—much denser and heavier than I anticipated. It doesn't have that cheap, floppy feel that plagues some coffee accessories. Because of its weight and texture, it stays firmly in place on the countertop and doesn't slide around during use, which is essential when you are in the middle of a brewing workflow. It is also manufactured well. The finish is smooth and matte, resisting fingerprints and water spots, and the edges are cleanly cut with no rough seams. It is clearly designed to take a beating. In fact, it is significantly more robust than I was thinking it would be. It absorbs impact well and protects my countertops perfectly, all while being incredibly easy to wipe down and keep clean.I wanted something permanent for my coffee station, not something I would have to replace in a year. given the build quality, I suspect this may outlast my espresso machine. If you are looking for a high-quality addition to your setup that feels professional and durable, this is an excellent choice. It is a solid, reliable piece of gear that is well worth the investment.

Saving my countertops one tap at a time!
I ordered this Espresso Tamping Mat because our daughter somehow/someway has never used one...and since she is living with us again, we didn't want any surprises: cracked countertops. First thought was this is a lifesaver...um, rather a counter saver. Once we laid it out on the counter in front of her espresso machine, my second thought was it was a little on the small size. But that might be because I'm older and don't like to be cramped. Our daughter found that it was the right size and it didn't phase her (especially when she moves out if her place has a smaller kitchen, it would work well - and stores well next to her machine). The silicone itself is very durable and has a good thickness. Washing it is no problem (actually it's easy), but when you dry it with a kitchen towel, it may leave lint on it (maybe a tea towel would work better?). I tried drying it with a Brawny paper towel and didn't leave any lint. Good purchase for the price!
