    Nice silicone mat good for many applications

    So we have our first espresso machine, the Breville Barista Touch, so it’s time to get the accessories. We keep our machine in an enclosed cabinet with a slide out shelf so most prep work is done on the kitchen counter not inside the cabinet. This is an attractive silicone molded mat that is actually very useful for more than tamping the grounds. I don’t really see the benefit of three different sized rings based on the Breville style grounds holder as it has the drip thing incorporated beneath it so it’s all you can’t sit flush anywhere. But we like that this catches the loose grounds for easy clean up. It is clean looking and we actual hang it over the edge of the sink now and use it as a drying mat for anything kitchen related as well as coffee related. The small lip on it hangs onto the edge of the counter nicely and being silicone it is grippy and stays in place. So this works very nicely for more than just the tamping and will most likely reside on the counter 90% of the time.

    Nice roomy tamping mat

    I previously had a tiny tamping mat but as my collection of espresso tools has grown over the past year, so too has my need for more space to put them!This is a truly universal tamp mat, accommodating all sizes of portafilters with plenty of space for tools like a tamper and a distributor. There's also a thin slot at the top of the mat that can store my puck screens upright, which will also help them to dry out quickly. Like many tamp mats, this one has a slight overhang, helping the mat to sit squarely against the counter edge and not shift as you are applying pressure. The mat is silicone and easy to clean. I have no complaints and am really enjoying the extra space to prepare my espresso!
