Nice, pricey but worth it.

Love this pot--keeps coffee hot for hours, traps even the tiny sediment so coffee doesn't get bitter, and looks very nice, IMO. Made well, and feels substantial Appreciated the matte finish, too. Worth the splurge...I think it will last a very long time.

Super Nice

This French press lives up to the hype. Super nice build, not cheap feeling in any way. It replaced a small glass French press and the difference in the taste of the coffee is dramatic. This holds the temperature longer which make a big difference and the screens work very well at keeping the coffee fines out of the pour, little to none at the bottom of the cup. Extremely pleased.

The double filters on this mean you don't need as good a grinder

I bought this along with a super high-quality grinder, and discovered that I kinda only needed one or the other. The mesh filters are fine enough on this that you can get away with a relatively crappy grinder. You can even use regular pre-ground coffee, and it'll come out okay. With a normal glass/single layer mesh press, using regular grounds will result in actual sludge in the bottom of your cup. With this unit, the Costco bulk ground coffee will leave some fines in your cup, but will work fine otherwise; the second layer of screening is good enough to keep the sludge at bay.If, on the other hand, you have a high quality, consistent grinder, you can buy a less expensive press and do fine. That said, pairing this with a good grinder makes absolutely *splendid* coffee. You don't necessarily need both, but I doubt you'll regret the purchase. The double filters can also help you calibrate your grinder; if the inner filter is getting many grounds on it, you probably want a slightly coarser grind. This unit is tall and skinny, and does better with a tall sink for cleaning. If you're trying to rinse it out upstairs in a standard bathroom sink, you should be able to do it, but it'll take a little maneuvering. The actual cleaning process is very easy, although you do have to clean two little baskets instead of one. It takes a wee bit longer than cleaning a standard press. The build quality seems good.Oh, one other note: because of the filter design, you end up with some coffee left in the bottom that you can't drink. You're using a more water than normal, so it takes more grounds than you're probably expecting. Further, French presses need more grounds for the same amount of coffee, because they're ground coarse and use a shorter brewing time. (normally 4 minutes.) I use six tablespoons of coffee per batch, and I get two 16-ounce cups out of it. With my older drip brewer, it took only four tablespoons. In exchange, the quality is *vastly* better, you can use almost any grounds, and after you've plunged it, the coffee stays excellent for at least an hour. Seems well worth it to me, but if your coffee budget is small, the higher consumption might be something to consider.

Better filter shape to avoid wasting a coup or more every use.

It's very nice and does a good job. But it could be more efficient though. The last 10 ounces or more are always left in the press and impossible to pour it out.A better filter design is warranted. Instead of a solid flat bottom press suggest a more cone shape. That should allow all the coffee to be poured out instead of wasting a cup every use.

It’s nice but there some downsides.

I’ve used this for about a month now. I like the outer steel container. It’s heavy duty and looks nice. The coffee tastes good, and it does stay warm for longer than my old glass French press. The downsides are that both filters are plastic, and the rim appears to be silicone. It’s extra work cleaning both filters and my worry is that the silicone rim will show signs of wear eventually and need to be replaced. So far it is holding up fine, but the Bodum French press filters were all stainless still and would never really need to be replaced (no plastic). The Bodum French press filter was also simpler to clean quickly compared to this multi layer filter that must be taken apart each time. The other little downside for me the large size. The 32oz is really big… it can actually hold about twice as much coffee as my old Bodum. If my partner also drank coffee in the morning this press would be perfect. But just for me, it’s way too big and it’s hard to see the measuring lines on the inside of the container. Finally, when I pour out the coffee, there is always quite a lot of coffee still in the container trapped with all the grounds which is a waste. You can get most of the coffee out by pulling up the plunger, picking up the container and pushing the plunger down again as you pour. But it’s kind of annoying.I wanted to treat myself to a really nice FP. Overall, this is a nice press, but I’m not in love with it. I did love my glass Bodum but my Bodum would break up with me every year or so. My search for the perfect FP continues on.

Great French Press Coffee Maker

The high end of the French Press. The double wall stainless steel construction keeps the coffee hot and fresh much longer and the double basket gives traps all the fine residue at the bottom. Clean up is a breeze, less than a minute to rinse the basket and dump the remain into my composter (Reencle).
