Everything you need to ferment!
I got this fermentation kit so I could make small batches of sauerkraut easily. It comes with everything you need except the salt and cabbage, including two wide mouth glass jars, two glass weights, airtight lids with silicone seals, stainless steel clamps, and 3 piece airlocks.I believe this is a good value for this price point, especially since you get two.The jars are made of high quality, thick, lead free glass and have a wide mouth measuring about 3 ¾” by my measurement. This makes them easy to reach inside for cleaning and for packing the cabbage tightly. Everything except the airlock is dishwasher safe, but really, it is so easy to clean I don’t know why you’d bother using the dishwasher. The glass weights are around 3 inches wide and weigh about 7 3/4 ounces each by my measurements. They are plenty heavy enough to keep the cabbage submerged well, and each has a knob for easy handling when putting them in or taking them out.The 3 piece airlock system automatically vents gases during fermentation, so you don't have to burp the jars every day. To get started, pack the jars with shredded cabbage (or whatever you’re fermenting), leaving a couple of inches of headspace, add your brine, place the weight on top, insert the grommet into the lid hole, seal the jar, then add the airlock. Fill the airlock with water halfway up, put the top cap on, and place the jars in a cool, dark spot away from direct sun or heat. You should see bubbles in a day or two as it starts to ferment. After a couple of weeks, when it tastes the way you like, it is ready to finish. To store, you can keep the sauerkraut right in the same jar. Just remove the weight, skim any harmless yeast from the top if there is any, remove the airlock, close the orange cap, close the lid, and refrigerate.
I’m very picky about what I use for fermentation, but these jars hit all the marks. You can feel the quality of these jars as soon as you take them out of the box! The glass is incredibly thick and heavy-duty, which is essential for handling the pressure of active ferments. Most importantly, I was happy to see these passed FDA-approved testing and US California Prop 65 standards. Knowing they are free from lead and harmful chemicals gives me peace of mind when making acidic ferments like kimchi and sauerkraut. The 1.1L size is perfect for the counter, and the weights fit perfectly - keeping everything under the brine. One thing they could improve upon is the interpretation, as the English is not very proper. The front of the booklet says “guider” and should say “guide”. There are other small errors within the guide, but overall it is still easy enough to follow. It’s hard to find affordable jars that prioritize safety standards like this. Highly recommend for anyone looking for reliable, food-safe fermentation gear.
Glolaurge Fermentation Jar, 1.1Liters Glass Fermenting Jar with Fermentation Weight for Making Sauerkraut, Kimchi, Pickles, Mead, Cider & More, Pack of 2I'm obsessed with fermented foods and I especially love real sauerkraut. Most of the commercial sauerkraut is vinegar based and cooked, which negates all the wonderful probiotics and enzymes that comes with long fermentation. So I make my own every few weeks. Before purchasing these jars, I was making my sauerkraut in wide mouth mason jars using an one piece fermentation lid. Results with that were mixed. I really like the set up with these jars as the air lock releases the gas efficiently without introducing oxygen to your food. This reduces molding and promotes a quicker fermentation process. The glass feels substantial and is attractive as well. There is the added bonus of 2 glass fermenting weights that fit nicely in the jar and can help keep your food submerged beneath the brine. The glass jar (minus the airlocks) can also be used to store dry goods when not in use as a fermentation jar. You get multiple functions from one set of jars. Good value for the $29.99 price.
The kit arrived quickly and complete. The jar has a large mouth for easy access to add your ingredients and cleaning. The kit works wonderfully as expected.
The fermenter top is so easy to use! The fit and seal is very effective! Does the job and works well.
