Best knife I've ever owned
For years I've been using a Santoku-style knife and have liked the shape which makes it easy to chop vegetables. However, I always suspected my knife couldn't "take" a truly sharp edge -- despite my best efforts to sharpen it. So when I saw this handsome Damascus steel knife, I decided to give it a try. Wow! This chops vegetables so much better than any knife I've ever owned. Wish I would have bought a knife of the quality years ago.I tried the "paper test" where you hold up a piece of paper between two fingers then drag the knife downward into an edge of the paper -- this slid easily through the paper like I've never seen before.Highlights:- Beautiful design and finish. Brightly polished and has a high-end look and feel.- Great balance.- Comfortable, sculpted hardwood handle.- The dimpled sides keep vegetables like potatoes from clinging to the knife.Bonus: Comes in a handsome presentation box -- so would make an excellent gift. Also includes a quality certification card and buffing cloth.

Probably not actual damascus at this price
I've been looking for a Santoku style knife for a while and this popped up and I thought I'd give it a try.The presentation of the knife was high and the blade was well protected in transit. It's got a full tang and the handle is real wood and riveted on well. The grind and polish on the handle is fairly seamless with just a hint of a bump when sliding your finger from wood to metal. There is a high level of polish on the blade. It almost feels like some kind of plating, but I can't be sure. The hammered surface helps keep food from sticking to the blade somewhat and offers some purchase for your fingers when pinching the blade. It's very well balanced and razor sharp out of the box. I've not tested durability of the edge. I'm not a "Forged in Fire" judge and won't be bashing this against bamboo or pigs. Now for the star knock. I don't believe for one second that this is actual damascus steel. At best it's a laser etching, at worst it's a print of some kind. The pattern barely shows unless you turn it in the light just so. Damascus steel is two metals folded together and the resulting pattern is visible through the entire knife. The tang, blade back and top of the handle show no indications of the damascus pattern. What's worse is when a light is shone on the blade, the damascus pattern doesn't make it down into the hammered dents. It only appears on the flat parts of the blade. So, it's likely not damascus, but it's still a good knife and a pretty good value.

This is not my most favorite knife.
I enjoy cooking, it is always Kitchen nice to have a good knife, or a good set of knives around the kitchen. I do have several nice knives and I use them quite a bit. I thought I’d try out this knife to see how it would stand against my other knives. This is a OK knife. Not one of my favorites. The blade is very light and the handle is somewhat heavy, so the knife does not feel balanced in my hand. The blade is thin, so it has a little bit of flex to it. It is a nice looking knife, and the box that came in was very nice too . I think for the money this knife is fine. But for serious people who need a really good strong, sturdy knife in their hand when they cook, I think that you should save your money and buy something more expensive. But, if you need a nice little knife around the kitchen to slice things, this knife is definitely sharp enough and will work just fine.

Beautiful with weight center at hilt end (toward blade)
First off, functionally it is great. Easy to hold, sharp out of the box, and dimples keep cuts from sticking to the blade. No damage to the blade upon arrival; the blade and tip both come protected by plastic.Secondly, this thing is beautiful. It comes with a shining cloth as well. I enjoyed a wonderful steak with it and it performed well, as well as just feeling easy. I’ve used serrated blades for cutting my steaks, but they end up getting shredded. The clean cut leaves it all intact.Lastly, the instructions say to sharpen it with a professional stone, not a rod (like most knives come with), but it doesn’t come with a sharpening stone. It also says not to use it on hard plates (like the nice stone ones we have, that I usually use for steaks). So, not sure how long it’ll keep its edge if I stop using the paper plates.I’m sure this knife is for more than steaks, but for me…this is exactly what I wanted it for. And it’s perfect.
