Nice & Thinner Than Traditional Cast Iron Skillet

I decided to fry chicken in this skillet, to see how good it works. It fried my chicken pretty well. I have no complaints. Apparently, this cast iron skillet is a tad thinner, than your traditional old school ones? It worked fine for me, in any case. I think since this particular cast iron skillet is thinner, it also is a bit lighter to hold. This cast skillet came with a set of instructions on how to both use and care for this skillet. I thought the instructions were helpful. However, in regards to the "care" of this skillet...the instructions state that you should grease pan and then put it over heat...each time you clean it??? I will be honest, I have used cast iron skillets before and I have never had to do that before?! It just seems too time consuming. After I finished using this cast iron skillet, I waited for it to cool. Afterwards, I poured the grease out and gently washed it with a sponge and little soap. Afterwards, I rubbed some (new) cooking grease (a little over a table spoon) all over the inside of the pan and put the pan away. I used and cleaned this pan 4 days ago...the pan still looks good (even without me heating it over the stove, after I cleaned and greased it). This is a very nice size cast iron skillet, by the way. As you can see from my photos, I was able to fry at least seven (7) pieces of chicken at a time. If anyone is interested in a new age cast iron skillet, I'd check this one out.

An Excellent Pan, An Heirloom In the Making!

This frying pan is the kind that immediately takes you back to the kitchens of great-grandparents—solid, reliable, and built with a sense of permanence that is rare in today’s cookware. It has a weight to it, but in the best possible way, reassuring you that it will heat evenly and hold that heat steadily while you cook. This heft is exactly what makes it excel where lighter pans fall short, giving you consistent results across the entire cooking surface. It’s not just a tool; it’s an heirloom in the making, something that can easily last a lifetime and be passed down for generations if given proper care.Unlike the thin, inexpensive pans you might pick up for quick use, this one represents an actual investment. Yes, those lighter pans still have their place—for example, a delicate nonstick skillet is often perfect for quick eggs—but they cannot rival the durability, versatility, and depth of flavor you can coax out of food with a pan like this. It’s the kind of pan you can use almost every day and trust that it will not only perform but actually improve over time with continued seasoning and use.Where this pan truly shines is when it comes to searing. There is nothing quite like the way it can put that perfect crust on a steak or hamburger, locking in juices and flavor while delivering that coveted restaurant-quality finish. Fish fillets develop a crisp, golden exterior while staying tender inside. Hashbrowns brown evenly and develop that ideal combination of crunch and softness. Even something as simple as a grilled cheese sandwich benefits, coming off the pan with an even, golden-brown crust that you just can’t get from a thinner skillet. These are just a few examples, but in truth, nearly anything that benefits from a strong sear or steady heat will turn out beautifully in this pan. That said, it does come with a learning curve, particularly in terms of care. This is not a pan that can be left to air-dry. Doing so risks rust, which is the greatest enemy of this kind of cookware. After washing, it is important to dry it thoroughly, ideally with a clean microfiber cloth. For long-term care, I always recommend lightly oiling the surface with a food-grade oil to maintain the seasoning and protect the pan from moisture. This step only takes a moment but pays off enormously in preserving the pan’s longevity. I use the same practice for my chef knives, keeping both tools in excellent condition for years to come. Over time, with regular use and proper maintenance, the pan develops a natural patina that not only enhances its nonstick qualities but also adds depth and character, making it uniquely yours. All of these qualities—the heavy-duty construction, the superb performance in cooking, and the potential to become a family treasure—make this pan more than just another kitchen item. It’s an enduring piece of craftsmanship, something that connects you to traditional cooking methods while enhancing your everyday meals. For anyone serious about cooking, whether you’re preparing a simple weeknight dinner or creating a showpiece meal for guests, this pan proves itself time and time again.Without hesitation, I give this pan my strongest recommendation. It is durable, versatile, and dependable, a true investment in your kitchen. With proper care, it will not only serve you faithfully but also stand ready to be passed down, carrying with it both memories of meals shared and the promise of many more to come. At this point it seems almost redundant to say, I give this excellent pan my full recommendation! Take care of it and it will be an heirloom!

Heavy-Duty but Easy to Use

This is a great cast iron skillet with a solid build that feels durable and reliable. It’s heavy enough to cook evenly without being so heavy that it’s uncomfortable to handle. The 12-inch size is perfect for everyday cooking, and it feels like it will last for many years with proper care.I appreciate that it came with clear instructions on how to maintain it, which makes it easy to keep in good shape. It cleans up nicely, and food cooks beautifully, everything I’ve made in it has come out tasting great. Overall, it’s a versatile, well-made skillet that’s easy to use and perfect for grilling, frying, searing, and more.
