This is a really nice tool. If you've ever tried adding flour in portions while mixing up some batter/dough, you know it can be messy. There are shields available with pour spouts, but I don't happen to have one of those. Instead, I ordered this little tool, and I'm glad I did. This is silicone, and can crunch up to store flat(-ish). In its flat storage form, it's probably 1-1/2" - 2" thick, which should fit easily in a drawer, or you can store it in your mixer bowl with your paddles. It washes in the dishwasher, and when you are ready to use it, you just unfurl it.There is a handle, which is intended to fit in the attachment hub at the end of your mixer. Unscrew the attachment knob, remove the logo badge, and fit the handle into the space there. When you do that, the funnel rests at the edge of your mixer bowl, ready to be used. It's functional, but not perfect by any means. I have a tilt-head mixer, and when I pushed the handle into the attachment hub, it rested there loosely, which meant it was a bit wobbly when I added the flour. However, it held just fine through a pound of flour for my sugar cookie recipe. I did need to wiggle the funnel a bit from time to time, as flour would get stuck in the folds, but that was pretty simple.Overall, it worked quite well to make adding flour in portions really easy. It isn't a shield, so you still have to be careful not to spray flour all over your kitchen when you're mixing it, but it really does help with adding ingredients without having to lift the tilt-head. Then when you are finished, just drop it in the dishwasher, fold it flat(-ish), and store it for next time.
Funnel fit our mixer as stated. Seller was prompt with shipping and delivery.
I do a lot of baking, and use my Kitchenaid Artisan 150 for most of my mixing. I use a bowl designed for adding ingredients to the mixer bowl; it looks very similar to a large gravy boat, and works fairly well. But when I saw this funnel designed specifically for Kitchenaid, at a great price, I ordered. Wow! The flour funnel is made of high quality food grade silicone. No plastic! I am replacing all my plastic food use items with silicone, glass, or metal, whenever possible to avoid the health hazards of micro and nanoplastics. It snaps on for a perfect fit, secure and steady, and directs anything you pour into it directly into your mixing bowl. No muss, no fuss, no flour puffs turning everything white! The silicone is smooth and slick, and nothing seems to stick to it like some of the silicone products I have seen. Everything slides through easily; I have used it quite a bit for my holiday baking, and it truly made my life just a little easier--which I appreciate. I'm old and grumpy, and anything that makes my daily tasks easier is welcome! It is sturdy and durable, and while it can be folded, I do not see any potential tears from repeated folding; this is very good silicone. It washes and dries easily, and so far nothing has stained it. I keep it hanging inside my cabinet where my mixer attachments are, and use it almost daily. This is a DUH! item--and I wish I had known about it sooner! I am absolutely delighted with its design and function, and recommend it without hesitation. It would be a great gift for anyone with a Kitchenaid, and really does save those flour explosions that occasionally occur, no matter how careful I am. Again, WOW!
Just yesterday I was doing some holiday baking and wishing I had ordered this little gizmo sooner. Wouldn't you know, it arrived not 2 hours later! Never one to pass up an excuse for more cookies, I decided to test drive it right away.I think I can learn to use it efficiently, but I will say I found it comes with a learning curve. I think it's ingenious that the funnel attaches to the front by means of the hub. The position meant that I ended up swinging my mixer sideways in order to see what was going on down in the bowl. The flour flowed at just the right speed, but as the funnel is foldable there are nooks and crannies where bits of flour can catch. I didn't realize this until I was taking it off the mixer, and ended up with flour in the slider base and on the counter. Also, I found that with the beater I was using there was a bit of flour that caught on the top edge. So the first try was not 100% successful, but good enough that I am willing to figure out how to make it work better next time. If you have the patience to learn a new skill, I recommend this handy little problem-solver.
This functional, handy little kitchen gadget is a total game-changer, especially when cooking or baking with kids! It's fantastic for minimizing messes—particularly with powdery ingredients like flour or any liquids that tend to splash and spill. Super easy to use and to clean (nothing sticks to it!), and it folds up neatly for compact storage. I have a different brand of a mixer, and fits just a good because of it's flexible material. Highly recommended!
