Never guesstimate your proofing time again! This has been a game changer for my breads, sourdough included. I used to use the back of my stove or top of my little gas fireplace or radiator, but I had to make sure to cover with plastic wrap or wet towel and pay attention to make sure it didn’t dry out or get too hot. This box keeps perfect temperature, humidity and has a timer that allows you to regulate your proofing. If you’re a bread baker, you need this! It also folds away to store it. Buy this!
The size is good for multiple uses but you do need a dedicated counter space near an outlet. The container itself seems made nicely but I had issues with the sensor that is used to determine the temp of the bowl, etc. you are using inside. The sensor has a small suction cup attached to the side but managed to stick to nothing I used: glass bowl, ceramic bowl. The sensor kept falling off so I ended up having to use freezer tape to hold it against the bowl since the instructions said the sensor would control the unit ultimately. It comes with instructions but I guess I needed more because I couldn't tell what the inner box temp was. There is a control unit that allows you to set the temp but I had difficulty knowing if the box was actually that temp inside or not. I don't know if the sensor turns it on/off or what.Being soft sided is a plus for storing but makes it somewhat awkward to fiddle around placing the cord to the sensor where it will allow you to zip the box closed along with the temp control unit. Maybe its just that this whole idea of a proofing box is new to me and I'm a bit awkward though. I'll have to continue using it to fully understand how it works. I ended up having to raise the temp to proof my sourdough starter and that did work. I'll need to give myself a little time. The cost compared to firm proofing boxes is definitely worth the effort though. I'm glad I got this and I'll work at getting comfy using it more & update this review. Right now, I'm all thumbs.
What a great idea! Maybe these aren't new but it was to me - a foldable (great for storage if your space is limited) proofing bread box for the home baker. And it has several uses including seed sprouting, which I haven't tried yet but seems like a great way to make this even more useful. The materials seem to be well designed and constructed, so far no issues with them folding and unfolding etc and edges and fabric or whatever it is, no tears or anything, and it came well packaged when shipped. Not something for mass producing bread but that's pretty clear from the listing, it's for the home baker and as such the size is perfect, 16 by 12 and besides bread you can do pizza dough too. It also has a good range of temps from 50 to over 100 degrees, comes with a remote and timer even, so with all the various uses and the things it comes with and pretty straightforward procedures it's a really cool kitchen accessory - for those who make this kind of thing that is, and like I said even for a gardener for seeds which I never would have thought of. As such would make a great gift for anyone who does either or both in your like. At under $40 it's a no brainer, as long as it keep delivering on all these uses. So far so good!
This proofing box is really nice and works exactly as expected! It heats up quickly and makes the whole bread-making process so much easier and faster. I love how convenient it is to use—just set it up, and it does the job perfectly. One thing to note is that the heat mainly comes from the bottom, so keep that in mind when placing your dough. But aside from that, it performs wonderfully. I also love that it’s foldable, which makes storage super easy when I’m not using it.Overall, it’s an excellent product, great quality, and definitely something I would recommend to anyone who bakes often!
I set mine at 82 degrees and it has worked perfectly for several months of near daily use! This unit proofed my sour bread culture & dough so well and dependably I have gone from one or two mixed quality result loaves a week to multiple very consistent good quality popular with the family and friends loaves a week! ... I will be trying yogurt in the near future, all because of this unit! ... A great value for the money, easy, functional, and because it is foldable for storage, space savings! ... I may end up buying more units, if yogurt etc, experiments work out!
1 Month Update: I tried using it today to proof a bowl of sourdough to make rolls, thinking it would only take a couple of hours set at 80 degrees…it took 6 hours to proof!! Unacceptable! I was up until 6:00am because I had to keep checking on it, and each time I checked it (every 30 min), it wasn’t heating up at all. The remote showed it was on and at the correct temp, but no heat was emitting from the coils. After a lot of trial and error, I eventually got it to heat up, but I had to set the temp at 90 degrees Fahrenheit for it to stay heated! That is not an acceptable temp for proofing dough, you should only proof between 78 and 82 degrees Fahrenheit! I am really disappointed in this product and do not recommend it. I am reducing my rating due to a faulty product.First Review: This bread proofing warming box is very sturdy and made out of a light-colored heavy Oxford fabric. It zips at the top and has a viewing window, which is very convenient for checking on your dough as it goes through the proofing process. The width and length is large enough to fit a 9”x13” cake pan and the height can fit a tall 4L/4QT Cambro container. The remote powers the box on and off and controls the temperature and the timer. The temperature ranges from 50*F to 113*F and the timer can be set in 1 hour increments up to 12 hours.Everything is easy and self-explanatory. The most difficult thing is figuring out how to fold it up to put it away. Lol
