This thing is awesome. Makes french fries and potato wedges effortlessly. Much better than the old plastic thing from the 70s. The one thing I would change is replacing the screws for back plate with thumb screws. Who keeps a #4 phillips screwdriver in their kitchen. BTW mine was threatened M8-1.25x25mm
Son-in-law loves the device. Makes great potatoes. Sweet potatoes (Yams) can be microwaved a few seconds to soften and then sliced. Regular potatoes work great without softening. Currently, we are using the suction cups for stabilization.
Haven’t used it yet, but I am confident it will be just what we needed to make quick french fries from reading reviews and watching demonstration videos on Youtube. I like that all parts are metal. Feels sturdy and of good quality.It is basically the exact same model as the Weston fry cutter. So, when you need replacement or different size blade sets, you can purchase from Weston.Also, no instructions come in the box. You can find Youtube videos of how to put it together (simple) and use it.Very satisfied.EDIT: Used it. Cuts potatoes like a charm.
Good at cutting fries. That's what it's sold as, and it does the job. I say that because I had planned to (for example) cut carrots 2" long and then rotate them 90 deg and run them back thru to cube them. Worked "ok", but it works better to just cut the carrot 1/4 - 1/2", stack them and run them thru once, replacing the plastic "lid slammer" type vegie cutter my wife has used and broken. (I think she's on her 7th one...)Pros:- really solid- tall lever really delivers the power with less effort.- this is going to be awesome for bulk cutting vegies prior to freeze drying.- the suction feet hold well on my granite counters (maybe a little TOO GOOD??) I may end up mounting this to a piece of wood or a plastic cutting board.- Easy to clean, IF you spray it off immediately, before the vegie pieces dry out. Otherwise you'll be disassembling it to wash it.Negatives:- it's pretty big. Evaluate your available storage space before you order.- each cutter size has it's own matching part for the "pusher". Changing the cutter is time consuming and requires removing 3 wingnuts and 3 lock washers (that I know I'll eventually lose). After that changing the pusher part requires a screwdriver. All in, probably 2 minutes. So if you're planning to change up the size you're cutting on the fly....maybe not.- it would be nice if the cutter had 4 mounting holes so it could be rotated to get the most use out of it, but it only has 3. Drilling an extra hole isn't possible due to a screw placement.
This is a great kitchen tool! I read all the reviews before buying and was a little skeptical due to complaints of loose handle and difficult cleaning. The handle was attached towards the base but required additional tightening of the inserted screws. This step was not written in the instructions but easily identified and corrected. The cleaning was another compliant. The device is easily cleaned by taking it to the sink, scrubbing the blade and press with a brush and rinsing under water. The slicer is a breeze to operate and quickly will make all the French fires you could want.
This French fry cutter is awesome!! It works fabulously, we actually use less potatoes because of how they are cut. Would totally recommend this product and this seller. Came on time and packed very nice. Great price and made very well. Easy to use and clean.
This thing is great for cutting fries. It's heavy, sticks to a clean countertop well, faitly easy to clean. It'll cut any size tater as long as you have it straight (end to end). Let it get crossed up and yes, it will be very difficult to push the handle. Just keep the straight and it's smooth as silk. It works very well.Some suggestions to make the product better; 1. Give me wing bolts instead of screws on the pusher side so I don't have to keep a screwdriver in the kitchen. 2. Provide a catch mechanism for the handle for cleaning. When you lay the handle all the way back and remove the cutter plate, the weight of the handle pulls the now unattached frame apart. To alleviate this I make sure I have a backstop to rest the handle against at about a 10 oclock position for cutter removal. This keeps the frame from moving and stays intact.
