First, why did I wait so long to buy a potato cutter? I just burned through 2 lbs of potatoes like it was nothing. Waaaaay less work than just using a knife. This thing is heavy and solid and feels premium *right* up until you get to the handle. It's wobbly, as others have mentioned. I'll probably find or print some washers to go in the gaps to make it less so. The pusher parts are plastic except for the one that comes pre-installed, which is metal. Not sure why they're plastic, but it seems like a heavy duty injection molded plastic (ABS or similar) and I don't think it actually ends up touching the blade so it'll probably last forever.I bought this one specifically for the wedge cutter because you can't get it separately or with any of their other models. I add potatoes to my meal-prep recipes to stretch them out into more servings and would love something that cut potatoes into 3/4" to 1" cubes, but it seems you can't get that outside of large, expensive, restaurant-intended potato cutters. I figured I'd cut them into wedges and then make a few cuts with a knife to make them into chunks. The problem I found with that is that the potatoes I'm getting from the grocery store are much too small. This thing could cut a pretty large potato, but trying to run a small one through the wedge cutter just doesn't work well. I ended up just using the 1/2" blade, so I could have purchased one of the cheaper ones. Oh well, might use it for apples at some point. They say to cut off the end of the potato before running it through, but for my use I just cut my potatoes in half (or thirds for the bigger ones), put the flat side against the blade, and WHAM! Instant potato chunks. The handle is two parts, and the cylindrical part unscrews easily (I had to tighten it once during use), so it'll come off easy for storage. I may design and 3D print something simple to store all the blades in, because you really don't want those just floating around in a drawer or haphazardly stacked in a cabinet.
It was a gift for my son who does all the meal prep in his house. He has used it several times already and says it works great. It really solid as it should be for the price.
I am really happy with this pro french fry cutter and I have no idea why I waited so long to but one.I cut through a 3lb bag of potatoes in under 2 minutes (after peeling and washing them). The unit is heavy and feels like a good quality unit, the blades are very sharp but you are somewhat protected from that by the nature of the design. A small amount of assembly is required - just the handle which is held on by two screws with washers and nuts. It goes on easily and is very sturdy with no wobble.Mine arrived with one of the smaller cutters on so I took that off and put on the largest size to make fat fries - it was all easy to remove and replace and they provide a brush so when you wash the plates you can get into all the corners. When you take of the cutting plate the side and bottom safety panels fall out, this is not an issue as they are very easy to put back and it makes washing them super simple.Once I had finished cutting it was all very easy to disassemble - maybe just a minute - and clean and then reassemble. If you find taking things apart to clean this is probably not for you, but that's down to the individual, I don't mind it.I really like that it still fits in the box when you are done - I just removed the end of the handle and all went in without a struggle. The suction cup did not work that well on my counter top, but its old and laminate, so I was not surprised, most things do not stick to it. Luckily, it is heavy enough that it was not an issue.I played with it a couple of times before I felt comfortable putting the first potato in because I was not sure where I could or should put my hand to steady it. I ended up putting my hand flat on top, the handle did not come close and it worked just fine.Happy to 100% recommend.
Great french fry cutter but I am not strong enough to make it work. I pulled a muscle in my neck just trying and had to return it. That is at no fault of the manufacturer. The french fry cutter is solid and sturdy and if I could use it, I would absolutely keep it.
This french fry cutter is definitely quite tough and durable, and, makes clean cuts that resulted in virtually perfect skin-on fries, just the way we prefer. I like the power it has to push very hard potatoes through the very sharp cutting plates. However, the instructions are very poor and difficult to follow, which made assembling the unit a tad challenging. I’m not fond of the tiny washers under the wing nuts to attach the cutting plates to the unit because of my aging hands, though I think you can probably just not use the washers. They’re EXTREMELY tiny. Also, the description says that the unit comes with 3 sizes of square cutting plates, but ours was missing the middle size of 3/8” which after using the 1/2” size for our fries, seems like 3/8” would be a more frequently used and preferred size for us. Still, overall it’s a good unit and we do like it.
