Goldfish Cracker Cutter
(reviewed by my wife)I have seen similar goldfish Cracker cutters being used by moms online. I always thought they were pretty clever, but probably very time consuming and a waste of money. My husband surprised me by ordering me this metal Gold Fish Cracker Cutter with Cleaning Brush. Upon first sight, the quality seems pretty good, up there with my everyday cookie cutters. It is nice that this goldfish Cracker Cutter cuts out 25 fish at a time. A lot of the ones I saw used in blogs only did 5 fish at a time. It took 3 uses of the cutter to fill up one of my cookies sheets with crackers to bake. Not bad at all time wise! While one batch was baking in the oven, I was to work on the next batch, very similar to my sugar cookie making routine. For the most part, these came out of the molds very nicely, and I used a toothpicks to decorate them with an eye and a mouth before popping them into the oven. My 9-year-old son came over and was intrigued in the goldfish cracker making process, and without very much instruction, he too was able to use the cutter and make goldfish crackers. This will definitely be something that I continue to use as we are becoming more health-conscience, and really watching the ingredients present in our food.

fish get stuck in this thick (high) mold, along with leftover dough in the crevices
From my pictures, you can see that these work. But they are messy which is why it comes with the brush. I felt like the cutter was a bit dull. It didn't always cut the dough well. I started to use my rolling pin on top of the cutter to get it to cut better, but that didn't help much. The cutter is thick (high). You do not want your goldfish anywhere near this thick. It would be better if the cutter were thinner (less high), not just to better see if your dough is too thick, but to push the fish out after you cut it. Mine kept getting stuck in the cutter. I tried to oil the cutter and then cut the fish, but that didn't help either. Now I know what I would look for in a goldfish cutter, a thinner size (height of cutter), sharper blades on bottom and a differentiated top (so you don't use the wrong edge on your hands as you press down), no little holes between fish, and some non-stick material.Maybe some of this was because of my dough. I made vegan "cheese" crackers. But it was a bit of a letdown in the use and it does take a while to clean because of how the dough gets stuck in those little crevice holes, which again would be less of an issue if the molds were thinner (less high). That said, it was a lot easier to make goldfish crackers with this than trying to manually mold them by hand (ha! as if I would even bother). But I would prefer using a mold with less fish if it solved my issues because it doesn't take that long to press and release a mold, but it does take time to have to constantly poke the fish out of the mold and if they easily slide out of a mold that would be a huge improvement over this particular one.Notes: I added the eyes with a toothpick, and the listing says the height of this is 0.1 inches in the description and 0.57 inches in the picture. It's likely 0.57 inches tall. I'm unsure of why there is a discrepancy.
