Great product/inconsistent instructions
There are several inconsistencies that may be masking problems with this toaster oven:The only instructions that come with the oven, a folded sheet, say, under FAQs, “The oven will hold a 5-pound chicken, while the box says “Extra-large capacity fits an 8-pound chicken.” The 8-pound capacity is also repeated in the product information on Amazon. Odd, although hardly a big deal since a 5-pound chicken in a toaster oven seems quite good.Under the heading “How to Use/ AIR FRY Mode,” it says “Slide Basket into top rack position, then slide Baking Pan under Oven Rack into middle rack position to use as a drip tray if necessary.” Just below, under the heading “Sure Crisp Air Frying Tips From Our Test Kitchen,” and instead of “use as a drip tray if necessary,” it says “Always use Baking Pan on rack under Air Fryer Basket to catch drips.”There’s also the discrepancy between placement of the air fryer basket. In “How to Use/AIR FRYER Mode” it says, “Slide basket into top rack position . . .,” while just below in the test kitchen air frying tips it says, “Use middle rack for most foods.” Furthermore, when the pan/rack are placed in the middle rack position, the fan’s lower vent is mostly blocked by the pan, with only a small area for what is probably the return air to the fan. Surely this must interfere with the air fryer function’s air circulation. And, if one follows the test kitchen’s tips and puts the air fryer basket in the middle position, does the drip pan go in the bottom rack position?Instruction discrepancies aside, I’ve only had it a few days and have had mixed success air frying with it. Trader Joe’s french fries tasted about as good as from a restaurant and not soggy the way frozen fries turn out when baked at home. I air fried two types of fish, putting the fist directly on the air fryer basket, and they too came out about perfect, and the basket was very easy to clean. The problem I had was with thick “steak” fries and a chicken breast in the air fryer basket together in the way photos show two types of food being cooked together. The chicken was hardly cooked at all while the fries were overdone. Overall, I’m sure this is going to be a lot of fun to cook with and produce great results after some hit or miss attempts at more than one food at a time. It wouldn’t hurt if Hamilton Beach provided a decent manual with recipes on its website for this particular model and better advice about where to place the basket and pan.Despite my bad results with the chicken and fries in the basket, I just air fried a thick pork chop on the rack at mid level for about 15 minutes, put steak fries in the basket up top, had to move the chop to the bottom level, and cooked for another 15 minutes needed for the fries. The chop and fries came out just about perfect. What an amazing little oven, plus it looks great with its double doors.

Decent compact oven
Preheats fairly quickly, the toast setting actually works better than expected (pick how many slices and how dark to toast). The temperature changes for switching to air fry might not need to lower as much as it recommends but the food still cooks regardless of a minor amount of trial and error for time and temp modifications if needed.

So much fun to use!
I wasn't sure I would like this air fyer because of the design. I wasn't sure if it would keep up with our family. It is really nice though. The air fyer basket is mesh wire but surprisingly easy to clean so far. We've used the air fyer for fried fish and the fish came out much better, cripser, and evenly cooked, than a westbend drawer style airfyer with the metal plate with holes in it that we had before. It takes a bit more work to use than the westbend, because you have to move the baking drip pan with the airfryer basket to catch crumbs but its not a bother to me and rather easy. The controls need to be studied briefly in the manual but once you learn it , its easy and fun. We toasted bread, and waffles on the metal grill wires and both came out evenly toasted and really great. We also baked some quesadillas in the baking pan. We actually put the baking pan on top of the metal grill wires and cooked it that way. They came out really good too. The big windows are really nice so you can keep an eye on the food unlike the westbend airfyer we have. It is so much funner to cook in this thing compared to the westbend. It has a crumb tray in the very bottom that is removable. This is one of my favorite appliances now. 5 stars! The only down side is the price because its a little pricey compared to the westbend.

Defective Heating Element
3 Stars - For the most part the product worked well. Air fryer could have worked better. Unfortunately, I'm returning because one of the heating elements does not work.5 Stars - I decided to reorder, because I've used Hamilton Beach products for over 40 years. I'm glad I did, because the replacement works perfectly. I recommend this product.
