Better than expectation

I always looked for any slightly heavy flatware with wooden handles. This is it! Not suitable for everyday use to protect from any moisture but perfect for special day.

This is ONE Place Setting, (NOT 5) Terrible Quality.

I'm reviewing this one person place setting as I received it. Let me just say this, I thought this was enough cutlery for 5 people because of the price and the title, and even then I thought it was over priced. In the title they list this as a 5 piece set. I thought this was enough for my family of 5, it's not it's for 1 person. On top of that there is only 1 picture, so you weren't able to scroll through several pictures to clarify. Extra pictures can sometimes help clarify what it is that you are receiving. So if this set is for 1 person at $109, that means for my family of 5 I would have to buy 5 sets at a cost of $545 plus tax. Pass. When you are ordering this cutlery online there are two choices for you to choose from, one box says 5 piece set $109. Right next to that box is another box that says "Steak knives, set of 4" $84. So with the steak knives you would be getting a set of 4, which really led me to believe that I was getting 5 place settings not 5 pieces. I felt this was very deceptive and not clarified at all. When I opened the box the cutlery was loose in the bottom of the box, not secured like you would expect a $110 one person place setting. (see my pictures). Just one piece of security tape across the top of the manufacturers box would have kept this set in place during shipping. The wood on all 5 pieces are different colors. The olive wood is very beautiful, but the fit and finish is terrible. There are places where the Olive Wood and the metal do not line up and there are sharp edge where you hold it on the left and right and can cut you. Also the very tips of the fork prongs are extremely sharp and would cut your mouth. On the spoon the metal is sticking out the side at least 1/16" and it is very noticeable when it is in your hand. In some places the wood is slightly miscut or warped and does not sit flush against the metal. One piece where the wood hooks up with the head of the fork, looks like it has been chipped away or rotting. Several of the pieces have substantial gaps between the metal and the wood, along with very sharp edges. When you are paying a premium for ONE place setting of silverware, it needs to be perfect but this is absolutely not. I wouldn't be surprised if this was a repackaged return because of all the flaws and problems with this cutlery. If a person had money to burn I could see them ordering this and then returning it because of all the problems and flaws. This is a subpar set of cutlery that is way overpriced for what you get. I do not recommend this at all.

Not worth the cost

Don't get me wrong they are very well made. The cost is way too high for a single set for one. If there were at least a 20 piece set( enough for a family of 4) I would have a different opinion. They are great quality, just not enough product foe the cost.

ONE Set For ONE Person

This is a nice flatware set, and the olive wood is very nice. This set is part of Hampton Forge’s premier line. While the set is quite nice, there is no way this single set of flatware for one person is worth over $100. Yes, you read that right: this is a review for ONE set of flatware for ONE person. The olive wood matched perfectly on four of the five pieces. The salad fork is quite a bit darker than the rest of the set. All pieces perform as they should, and they are a great size for adults. I would not recommend having children use this flatware, as the utensils are a bit large for small hands. Also, these are hand-wash only.

Forged Metal Utensils With Real Wood Handles.

Features:ShinyPrettyForgedUniqueDurableBalancedLightweightComfortableQuality finishDishwasher safeSold in sets of five18/10 stainless steelHampton Forge, a name brandReplacements/additions availableOrganic (real) olive wood handlesConsiderationsNot handmade in USA.This flatware was made in ChinaHandwash, don’t use citrus-based dish detergentBottom line:We are pleased with our selection. This flatware does carry a premium price, and it’s made in China. A good flatware set, which has the features noted above, which we think this is, enhances any table’s place setting. Each utensil feels comfortable not only to use, but to hold. The weights of each piece are nicely balances and are as follows, in grams/ounces:salad fork = 64g/2.3oz.dinner fork = 96g/3.5oz.knife = 90g/3.2oz.teaspoon = 70g/2.5oz; and, dinner spoon = 100g/3.5oz.Nothing is too large nor too small. All non-cutting edges are smooth and comfortable. Tines are just the right size. Knife has the right amount of sharpness. Spoons hold a generous amount of liquid. These could be used daily or those occasional formal settings, that is how nice these items are and a testament to their durability.Flatware vs Silverware and Stainless SteelFlatware, technically, would be spoons, forks, and other “serving” utensils used at the table; and would exclude a knife, which is classified as cutlery, although commonly included in the definition of flatware.Silverware is any of the above, but the metal is silver (costly and time consuming to clean away tarnish. A cheaper version is silver plated flatware.Stainless steel started to become popular about (100) years ago. The amount of shine any utensil possesses has nothing to do with whether its flatware or silverware. The best material, for stainless steel flatware is 18/10, which this is. 18/10 stainless steel contains 18% chromium and 10% nickel. Chromium is used in stainless steel to provide durability as well as resistance to rust and corrosion, while nickel is used to give flatware its luster.Forged vs Stamped flatwareForged flatware is made from a solid bar of stainless steel that undergoes a heating process, to a very high temperature, then cut, pounded into shape, sharpened, and finished.Stamped flatware is from a ribbon of steel, then punched or cut out into its shape. Then tempered, sharpened, and finished. Stamped produces less expensive flatware.Because of the heating process, forged flatware is stronger than stamped flatware, which is more flexible.Hampton Forge is a name brand, and we like name brand products. Why? Because name brand products have high quality standards and stand behind what they sell; that includes Hampton Forge. So, if there is a defect, we can look to Hampton Forge to honor their warranty. Further, if we need an additional piece, to add or replace in our collection, we can look to Hampton Forge to likely have what we need. Which brings us confidence in any Hampton Forge product, including this flatware set.Although the price seems expensive, it really is not, for a good set, that could last generations (I know, we have flatware passed down generation after generation that is over (150) years old, that I still use, cannot beat those needle point tines of old - LoL).A word about craftsmanship. We seem to recognize that when artificial woods are used, such as pakkawood, there are no gaps and such. However, for real wood handles, the molding to the metal is not always perfect. We have seen this in many instances, even in expensive craftsman flatware products made in the United States and at premium prices. So, if getting this set, you may be able to feel the edge of the wood meeting the metal. We personally do not think that a significant issue. The price is competitive. We hope our pics and thoughts assist in your decision.
