Very charming place mats offering multiple uses. Combines natural weave with larger braided design.
I ordered the set of six, wanting something that we could layer for a dressier place setting. We don't normally do this, but wanted to try it for prettier holiday table settings. We've seen this done to nice effect, and we wanted to be able to do it. My images show them separated and layered (the images were taken on the table that had been set for rectangular placemats only; I should have removed those from the bottom for the pics.) We did use the setting for another meal layered with just the pieces from this set, and we liked the look very much. I've seen other reviews mention the slightly irregular finishing of the edges on the smaller woven natural fiber mats...I don't find this odd or that it indicates poor workmanship or design. I think it simply reminds that they are natural fibers woven into a spiral design. I think it adds to the charm. I find nothing in this set to complain about at all. I think the larger mat and the smaller natural one are nicely matched and complimentary to one another in coloration, shape and size. Of course there are uses these can be put to other than layering; coaster style for the small ones under dessert plates or small charcuterie plates, the large ones alone for less dressy meals where easy cleaning is an issue, under table decorations, and even under plants used as table decorations. I think they give a very decent value for the price, particularly if you can catch them on sale. I don't have any concerns about durability either. They are well made, and if cared for according to the manufacturers instructions, I believe they will last very well. They aren't intended for the kids to have their plates of spaghetti on, and I wouldn't do that and expect them to remain nice. But used judiciously and with common sense, I think they are a nice item for a slightly dressier table setting. We are enjoying them! RECOMMENDED!
