Protected the surface but not heat-resistant itself

This heat-resistant mat is very good at protecting the surface of your countertop or table from hot items. It folds up like an accordion and comes with two Velcro straps to keep it together for storage. This is very convenient, so it doesn't take up a lot of space when not being used.The listing says that it can be used under hot pans, so we used it under a griddle pan. The heat from the griddle pan melted the foil, heat-resistant surface. (See pictures)The countertop was protected and kept cool, but the mat is permanently changed. It still functions and does a good job of protecting the underlying surface, but it is not as pretty. I would not put hot pans directly on it if you care about what it's going to look like.Does a good job of protecting the counter but the cover material is not heat resistant.
