Hot scooper for frozen cold ice cream!
For years frozen ice cream has been in our super cold freezer that is typically at 0 degrees F down to about -5 F. When we have something with lower fat content it is so rock hard that we have to leave it on the counter for a while. On a birthday party when we forget to time it just right everyone gets impatient. This little heated scooper actually works! First of all, it comes in nice packaging which makes it also ideal as a birthday gift. It has a nice presentation and a USB type C plug into the scoop and a USB A plug into a brick or an outlet. It took about 1 1/2 hrs for the little lightning indicator to show that it was fully charged. I then took out of the super cold freezer an ice cream that is the "rock hard" type since it does not contain as much cream. This type of ice cream has been responsible for the break of 2 previous ice cream scoop. With age comes weaker hands, and it is not worth struggling to get to the frozen ice cream! In the kitchen I have an outlet that has been outfitted with USB plugs so all I had to do was to plug it in. After the lightening sign stops flashing it is charged. You unplug it, push the button (which in the black handle one you cannot see but can feel it) and it turns on to 120 F, if you push once it will go to 140 F and another push brings it to 160 F. It takes some 5 minutes for it to warm up so be patient. I used it at the lower setting and that was hot enough to melt my ice cream as I very slowly scooped it out. This made scooping ice cream a fun as well as fast endeavor. I do not like, however, that it turns off soon after so you have to keep on turning it on if you have a lot of scoops to generate. To clean it, I just put the metal part under running water. It was super easy to clean. The whole scoop feels solid and does not look like it would easily break. The feel of the handle is ergonomic and soft. You have to be careful with it because you cannot immerse it in water or put it in the dishwasher (which could be instinctive). When I ordered this it was priced at $40 and that was a bit too steep. Priced at $25 would be ideal. As a gift it is easier to justify this "luxury" or if you have to have ice cream frequently and scooping it has become super difficult.
