Quality honing steel
I'm not the expert, but I understand steels are typically considered to be either primarily for "honing" OR "sharpening." Based on that understanding, I would definitely call this a honing steel, and would use it to maintain a sharp edge that hasn't been dulled. Although either type of steel will do some of the "other" function, I think this listing emphasizes "sharpening" more than it should. It is quite heavy which gives it stability, and the flat shape makes it easier to keep the blade edge at a consistent angle. The groves are quite fine which is why I believe it works well on very sharp edges, but maybe not as well on duller ones.I've run three sets of knives over it now and it is showing no wear at all, so expect it is going to wear very well.Very nice quality steel.

It's a beast
Overall this is a good honing steel. The handle isn't the greatest quality, but I find it is still easy enough to use. The steel itself is great, and because of its size, I find it handles even my largest knives. I sort of feel like it is a bit of overkill for most homes and I could see it in a butcher shop or a more professional setting, but I'm still happy enough to use it at the house.

Good honing steel
Overall a good quality steel for honing.Works well, is easy to use.The handle is pretty cheap (just plastic with seams /etc) but it isn't uncomfortable or unsturdy.Overall a good and solid tool that does the job well.Happy with it.

If you know what you're doing, this is great.
If you haven't used a honer before, please make sure you familiarize yourself with how it works beforehand. I had a family member ruin some really expensive knives thinking that a honing rod is a sharpener.I saw another reviewer dislike the handle, I however found it fit my hand really well. This is a sturdy honing rod and it's heavy, which is a good thing. It has very fine grains on it so it's perfect for keeping things maintained so you don't need to sharpen as much. I'll just note that I've spent a LOT more money on another rod that I didn't like anywhere near as much. At the same time, if you're not really familiar with what you're doing this probably isn't the best started one. It'll likely just end up being frustrating and you won't get what you want out of it.

Exceptional Sharpening Tool!
I recently purchased the KINTIF Heavy-Duty Honing Steel, and it has exceeded my expectations. The 12-inch length is perfect for my butcher and chef knives, providing ample surface area for effective honing. The flattened oval shape offers excellent control during sharpening, making the process smooth and efficient. The high-carbon steel construction ensures durability and high hardness, which is essential for maintaining a sharp edge on my knives. The fine cut of the honing rod is ideal for regular maintenance, keeping my blades in top condition. I highly recommend this honing steel to anyone looking for a reliable and high-quality sharpening tool!

Honing Rod
This is a high quality honing rod. It has a good bit of weight to it. The grooves on this honing rod are very fine. It seems very well made out of high-end materials. It worked very well on the knives I've used it on. Most of them had middle of the road stainless steel blades, like 8cr13MoV, AUS8, D2, 14C28N, etc. if your preference is to have a flatter honing rod I would recommend this one.
