These nut crackers work great. It makes it much easier to not make a mess when cracking nuts.
Works wonderfully!
This is an awesome nut cracker. It handled some pretty tough shells without a problem. I didn't try black walnuts because I didn't have any. I'm curious how it will handle those as they are notoriously difficult to open. The listing does say that black walnuts will need more force. The cracker is solid steel, so it's pretty tough. The design allows it to hold nearly any size nut and it holds the crushed shells without making a mess. My only complaint is that it actually does too good of a job in that it actually crushes the nut. That part was disappointing because I was trying to shell pecans because I wanted whole nuts for a recipe, and it broke them into small pieces instead. Maybe if I use less pressure it may not crush the pecans. I may have to just play around with it more to find the sweet spot. It is perfect if you just want to sit and snack on fresh nuts or if you want "chopped" nuts for baking. It is probably one of the best nutcrackers I've ever used.
My initial reason for getting this nutcracker was the enclosed design, since multiple relatives have injured themselves with nutshell shrapnel to the eye from traditional open nutcrackers. And yes, the silicone lid does keep shell bits from flying upward; with small nuts like filberts, the lid doesn’t even need to be held down. (I haven’t tried bigger ones like walnuts or brazil nuts yet.)But this design has so many other benefits! You don’t have to carefully hold the nut in place to keep it from escaping and ricocheting across the room; the funnel-like design drops the nut into the perfect spot for its size. In fact, the nutcracker doesn’t even require the use of both hands, which is fantastic if for some reason you can’t use one hand. And most (though not quite all) of the nutshell pieces stay trapped inside the funnel until you pour them out with the rest of the nut. There are a few quirks that you do have to watch out for. When you squeeze the lever, small gaps open up in the sides of the funnel, and very small bits of shell may fall out or get trapped. Trapped pieces may throw off the lever alignment and even cause the whole lever to pop out, though it’s not too difficult to put back together and the issue can be avoided by making sure you clear any stuck shells out of the gap as you go. The little crumbs that fall through can be really annoying if you don’t have something underneath (bowl, placemat etc) to catch them. And since of course you can’t see the nut while you’re cracking it, you have to carefully feel the amount of resistance/pressure needed to open it instead of downright pulverizing it.And this nutcracker is significantly bulkier and heavier than the traditional design, which could make storage more awkward… but honestly, I think it’s worth it. The construction is very solid, without rough seams or edges on the metal. It doesn’t take more grip strength, and the auto-feed requires a lot less attention. And again, the eye safety and one-handed usage are fantastic features, and I have used this to casually open and eat about a pound of filberts while barely looking away from reading. So many filbert. Nom nom nom.
This nut cracker is sturdy, effective, and makes cracking even the toughest shells much easier than traditional plier-style tools. Here are the standout features from several weeks of regular use:Build quality and durability: The all-metal construction (with a thick cast base and lever arm) feels substantially built—no flexing or wobbling during use. It easily handles hard-shelled black walnuts that have destroyed lesser crackers in the past.Cracking performance: The adjustable anvil and cone design lets you dial in the perfect fit for different nut sizes (from small hazelnuts to large pecans and thick black walnuts). It applies focused pressure, cracking shells cleanly with minimal effort—one smooth downward push on the lever does the job. Most nuts split open with the meat intact and in large pieces, greatly reducing shards and waste.Splash-proof lid: This is a thoughtful addition that actually works well. It contains flying shell fragments effectively, keeping the counter clean even when cracking stubborn black walnuts that tend to explode.Ease of use and stability: The wide base with non-slip pads keeps it firmly planted on the counter, and the long handle provides excellent leverage without straining your hand or wrist. Cleanup is simple—just wipe down or rinse the lid.One minor suggestion: For very small nuts (like almonds), you may need to experiment with the adjustment to avoid pulverizing them, but once set, it's consistent.
This nut cracker does exactly what it claims—cracks even stubborn black walnuts without making a mess. The splash-proof lid is a smart touch that saves cleanup, and it has a nice heft to it. If you’ve ever fought with a handheld cracker and lost, this tool is a serious upgrade. Definitely worth it if you process nuts in bulk.
