Pretty heavy duty without being heavy
Pretty much daily, I find myself taking a bowl or plate out of the microwave that's way too hot to handle. Or on occasion out of a steamer which can also be tricky since there's limited room to use a plate grabber.I picked up a plastic pair of grippers a few weeks back and those broke almost immediately, so I went looking for a metal pair and found these.Grip strength is impressive, in fact I have to remind myself not to grip too hard so I don't apply too much pressure. There's pads for gripping in the mouth and pads for comfort on the handle.My only issue is the way the pads on the handles are mounted, they have a little nub that's pushed through the metal and is held in place with friction. The rest of the pad is just laying on top of the grippers. While not a big functional issue, feels like it's not the most secure way of attaching the pads to the handles. Also I've seen other designs that have a spring that prevents you from over gripping the plate or item, these grippers don't have that feature. would have been a nice feature. Other than that, they do what they were designed to do and they seem to be sturdier than the plastic ones I tried a few weeks back.

Works, but Lower Your Expectation
Yes, it works as expected, grabs hot plates and doesn't slip, but its craftsmanship isn't that great. The metal is thin and doesn't feel heavy, as one would expect of a gripper made to protect you from burning heat. The joints are also not too reassuring; what I'm afraid of (which I'm probably over-concerned) is if one day I unknowingly attempt to grip a pot or grill that's too heavy for me, and it slips or bends. Again, that probably won't happen, but who knows? I don't think the price is right for this; it needs to be below $10 to be a good value.
