Perfect for my needs
It's a great small size. I've used it a couple dozen times and it works perfect for my needs. I can hold it easily in my grasp on the countertop to prevent slipping around. The cleanup is a breeze, mostly just wipe it out, once a week or so I wash it. I use this little gem daily. Glad I got it. A good quality item at a good price.

Pay attention to the SIZE
My fault - I didn't REALLY pay attention to the dimensions, I thought "Yeah, small, and under ten bucks, I'll take it..."The quality is fine, it's the size, and that's no reason to deduct review points. Crushing the gaiao tablets to make L-Reuteri yogurt in this tiny pup was doable - not easy, not hard. It's terribly cute, like a child's toy, but it does work. I'm 6' tall, and have large hands, athough I'd have preferred a larger size, it was fine.I was being cheap and thought this small one would be fine (looking at the picture, not the words... lol).I've since ordered a larger unit, but I'm keeping this one. If you need this for a single "small use", i.e. grinding 1-2 tablets or a tsp of something - you'll be fine. I would draw the line at attempting to grind a single clove or peppercorn - don't do it... it's just too tiny. Maybe something like a tsp of dried oregano or rosemary.

Still crushing it — 7+ years later!
Bought: Feb 2017 Review ? Why now ? Need dogs medicine crushed. This little mortar & pestle has been a workhorse in my kitchen for over 7 years. I use it weekly — not just for herbs and spices, but also to crush dog meds, turn kibble into powder for homemade pill pockets, and blend up mini batches of oatmeal or base mix. It’s the perfect size for small jobs and still looks great after hundreds of uses.Easy to rinse clean, solid feel, and has never chipped or cracked. I don’t baby it — I use it. And if I ever lost it, I’d reorder in a heartbeat. If you’re looking for something to help you crush pills, grind small amounts of herbs, or create quick recipes for sensitive tummies (human or canine!), this one’s a keeper.

Works well, but it is almost too small
Could be a very good mortar and pestle for grinding up seasonings etc, but it's even smaller than I expected so it's somewhat difficult to use. Is high quality and looks nice though. And perhaps my frustration with the size is more of a user problem than a problem with the product.

Quite happy with this purchase. Does exactly what I need.
I am very happy with this purchase.I wanted something to grind my Vit C tabs with, as the tabs were not easy to swallow, and given how important Vit C has become in the treatment of Covid-19, and having dug into the research myself, taking a fair amount daily preventively seems to be a no brainer. Some ground breaking, interesting and very recent research has demonstrated there is a rapid transport system for Vit C directly from the stomach (if doses and stomach acidity are high enough), and the redox activity of ascorbic acid (vs none seen with the buffered form sodium ascorbate). It demonstrated very high doses being rapidly absorbed from the stomach on par with IV Iv adminustration of Vit C. So mixing the ground up Vit C tabs with something to take or drink seemed like the a smart plan of action.I decided, after much looking, that a ceramic motar and pestle was the best way to go since steel can rust, and more porous materials can absorb odors and stains. I decided on this set due to added value of the various sizes included. I am quite happy with the quality and ease of use.To initially break up the Vit C caplets I use the small mortar with the large pestle. They work very well together and make short work of it. Then, after getting it into a fairly fine-to-medium powder, I use the smaller pestle to finish getting the powder to a fine and uniform consistancy. This is all done very quickly. I then combine the powdered Vit C with something else to ingest it. I've been using a high quality extra virgin olive oil with a 'press date' (something hard to find, but tells you how fresh it really is), and when you add Vit C, wow the flavor pops! This has become part of my nutritional regime for staying well in these troubled times.I've seen no staining or wearing to any pieces, and they are easy to clean. I am very pleased with this purchase. For around $15, this seems to be a very good value.

Crooked Pestle
Great product, less than great quality control.Mortar, the bowl that holds things to be ground is as expected. A bit bigger than a golf ball, glazed outside, rough finish inside, perfect. The pestle had some issues that placed it squarely outside the perfect box. It has the texture and length of a pestle that would be a match to the partnering mortar. But that’s where the perfection and similarity’s end.The pestle is bent, curved if you will, rendering it somewhat difficult to use if not completely useless. The item is of too little value to return for a replacement, and yet too important to ignore.I will be ordering a replacement, just NOT from the same company.
