Nice sharpener; recommending with qualifiers

This is a very nicely made knife sharpener with an interesting design twist: the block holds a knife at the proper angle and a diamond roller moves along the countertop, sharpening the knife as it goes. Sounds simple and effective.Well, it’s not as simple as it sounds, though I will acknowledge that it is reasonably effective. It’s not as simple as it sounds because the process is actually a bit ‘fiddly.’ First, getting knife against the block at the correct angle can be awkward, depending of the size, shape and the type of grind of the knife. Second, despite the magnets holding it against the block at the correct angle the knife can easily move around during the sharpening process. Yes, you can use this rolling diamond knife sharpener to sharpen a knife, but it takes a bit more effort than you’d think. Finally the result of my efforts, at least, were not noticeably better than those I got using a $20 diamond sharpening rod and the honing steel that came with my knives. On the plus side, the price has dropped twenty five dollars since I ordered mine, so if you’re in need of a knife sharpener, or would just like to try a new and novel way of sharpening that drawer full of beat-up, dull knives you have laying around, you’d only be taking a chance with $34.99. At that price I can recommend it, with the exceptions noted above.

Works great on my pocket knives.

I love this knife sharpener. It doesn't seem to work very well on my kitchen blades but it works great on my pocket knives so I'm choosing to still give it five stars simply because I can't confirm the issue is with so much the sharpener or just the fact that I need better kitchen knives.I do really like how compact this knife sharpener is and how easy it is to use. You simply stick the blade to the magnetic base and use the roller to sharpen it.If your looking for a good knife sharpener, especially for pocket knives, I recommend giving this a chance.

Sharpening Zen — When Craftsmanship Meets Kitchen Therapy

This A-Fours wooden rolling knife sharpener makes the simple act of sharpening knives feel like a mindful ritual rather than a chore. There’s something deeply satisfying about how it looks, feels, and sounds — the diamond roller gliding along the edge while the magnet gently holds the blade in place. You’re not just sharpening steel; you’re communing with it.The build quality is superb — solid beech wood, cool stainless steel accents, and diamond abrasives that mean business. It’s that rare mix of “artisan charm” and “mechanical precision.” The 15° and 20° magnetic angle guides are a godsend, letting you feel like a master bladesmith without needing a YouTube tutorial or a Japanese apprenticeship.I started cautiously with a small 4-inch paring knife and an old cleaver, expecting modest results. What I got were edges so sharp I could practically slice atoms (or at least tomatoes). The tactile feedback — the faint vibration as the roller runs the edge — makes you want to keep going. Before long, I was sharpening everything in the kitchen that had even a hint of a bevel. It’s also eco-friendly and beautifully packaged, which makes it feel like something designed by people who love tools — not factories that just make them. Lightweight and portable, it’s the kind of item that would look as good in a professional chef’s kit as it would in a minimalist kitchen. In short: beautiful, clever, and meditative. It’s a knife sharpener that somehow makes you feel like a better cook — and possibly a more centered human being.

A mixed bag. What is present is functional but with quality concerns. Description is inaccurate

I got this as a gift for my brother, but the box was unfortunately dirty when it arrived. Literal greasy fingerprints on the front of the box. I am not faulting the seller for that, as it could have been done at any time along the way before it was put into the shipping box, but it was still disappointing. The other thing that puzzles me is something I have written to the manufacturer about: the item is described as having four different grits. But it has only two. The grit wheels are removable, and it would be possible to screw on another wheel if one were present...but there's not. The box doesn't seem to have any place were two more grit wheels could be enclosed, so perhaps the description is just an error. I will update the review if I get a response from the manufacturer that answers the question. As for what is actually here, it is a wooden base with two different angled sides, to which you attach your magnet-friendly knife, and then roll the grit wheel along the surface of the knife to grind it down. The two grits included are shown in my images, and I would categorize them as semi-course (really, not very course) and fine. The system works. I sharpened a santoku knife and it had a noticeably sharper hone after about three passes on each side. It's a little tricky to position the knife at just the right height, but that 's jut part of the learning curve. The thing that worried me is the thinness and flimsiness of the two magnet attachments to the wooden block--it's basically one of those flexible flat magnets like a business might produce with their logo and phone number that you would stick to your refrigerator--not something that I would consider durable. I see that another reviewer included images where the magnets were already peeling away from the wooden base. I think it will last a while if you take extra care in how you handle it and store it, but it would have been nice to see a better solution for that function--embedded magnets or two strong linear magnets...anything other than whatever this stuff is officially called. Flexible flat magnet? For the price, I expected something better.EDIT to add: manufacturer responded quickly to say the description was inaccurate and would be corrected. The item does only include two grit wheels and was never meant to include four. The description WAS changed, but it’s still not correct. The word “four” was removed, but that’s it. The description still lists four grades of grit. Just be aware only two will be sent.
