Love the knife but it is sharp. Did the job on the turkey for Thanksgiving
When shopping for a kitchen knife, look at the RC hardness..Anything below 59 imo is too soft and needs sharpening more often. You can shave with this knife.
Crazy sharp be careful!
Knife looks to b a solid super sharp product...Was looking for a carbon steel carving knife to use to carve a rib roast for banquets...Other reviews seemed positive.....so I made the purchase.....
I am genuinely in awe of this carving knife. The moment I unboxed it, the first thing that caught my eye was the gorgeous Damascus-style design on the blade, it looks like something a professional chef would proudly display. The craftsmanship is incredible, and honestly, it feels and looks like a knife worth a thousand dollars. We put it to the test on Thanksgiving this year, and it completely blew us away. The blade is SHARP, truly razor sharp, and it sliced through both the turkey and the ham like absolute butter. No sawing, no hesitation, just clean, smooth cuts every single time. The 15° edge and high-carbon powder steel really make a difference; you can feel how effortlessly it glides through meat. It made carving so easy that it almost felt like the knife was doing the work for us.The handle is also incredibly comfortable. The pakkawood has a great feel in the hand, and the balance is spot on. Even after a long carving session with large cuts of meat, it never felt heavy or awkward. Everything about the design, from the tapered bolster to the ergonomic grip, makes it a pleasure to use.Aside from its performance, it’s simply a beautiful piece. More than one person at the table commented on how striking it looked, and I can’t blame them. Between the elegant blade pattern and the high-end feel, it’s the kind of knife you’re proud to pull out for special occasions. If you love cooking, barbecue, or just appreciate a well-made tool, this carving knife is an absolute standout. It delivers professional-level performance, and it’s truly a gift to remember, for yourself or anyone who loves being in the kitchen.
This HOSHANHO knife is an exceptional example of craftsmanship and thoughtful design, one that immediately makes a strong impression as soon as one grips it in their hand. From the outset, the knife reflects the highest standards of quality that the HOSHANHO brand has come to be known for, and it is evident in every detail—from the balance of the blade to the comfort of the handle. What makes this knife especially noteworthy is how it delivers the refinement and performance typically associated with knives that can easily cost twice as much, making it not only a well-built tool but also an outstanding value. The weight of the knife feels deliberate and balanced, giving it the kind of sufficient heft that signifies durability and reliability. It neither feels too heavy nor too light; rather, it offers a sense of control that seasoned chefs and home cooks alike will tend to appreciate. This balance, coupled with the rounded ergonomic handle, makes for a grip that feels natural in hands of any size. The handle itself is thoughtfully designed to facilitate a secure hold, minimizing any risk of slipping even when hands are wet or oily. This enhances safety while also enabling smoother, more confident cutting motions. The blade is impressively sharp, crafted with a 15-degree edge that rivals many Japanese chef’s knives. This sharper angle means less resistance when slicing, allowing the knife to glide effortlessly through foods. Whether carving meats, slicing fruits, or preparing vegetables, the precision is remarkable. Each cut feels effortless, as though the knife is doing much of the work on its own. For those who value consistency in their cooking, this level of sharpness is invaluable, as it allows for uniform slices that enhance both the presentation and the cooking process.A particularly unique feature of this knife is the subtle upsweep at the blade’s tip. While many carving knives have a straight edge, this slight curve serves both a functional and aesthetic purpose. The upsweep improves visibility when slicing, making it easier to track the knife’s path through large cuts of meat such as brisket or turkey. This design element ensures that slices remain even and controlled, which is especially important when preparing meals for presentation. For those who, like myself, value the aesthetics of uniform slices, this feature becomes indispensable. It transforms the process of carving from a task into a satisfying, almost artistic experience.Beyond its performance in the kitchen, the HOSHANHO knife carries with it a sense of permanence. It is not the kind of knife that one purchases, uses briefly, and then forgets. Rather, it is an investment piece—one that, with proper care, can last for decades and even be passed down through generations. Caring for this knife is straightforward but essential. After each use, I find it best to clean the blade immediately by gently dipping it into warm, soapy water and wiping it carefully, always moving from the handle toward the tip to preserve the sharp edge. Drying it with a microfiber cloth ensures no moisture lingers, protecting the blade from rust or corrosion. For long-term storage, especially in humid climates, I recommend lightly coating the blade with a thin layer of food-grade oil using a soft cotton cloth. This small habit, which takes only a minute, significantly extends the life of the knife and preserves its brilliance. What truly elevates the experience of owning a knife like this is the way it connects utility with memory. Cooking is often as much about the moments shared as it is about the meals prepared, and a tool of this quality becomes part of those memories. Years from now, when this knife is handed down, it won’t merely be a kitchen tool—it will be a piece of family history, carrying with it the legacy of countless meals, celebrations, and gatherings. The thought that a loved one may someday hold the same knife and recall the care and respect it was given is deeply meaningful. In practical terms, the versatility of this knife makes it suitable for a wide range of kitchen tasks. It excels at carving roasts, turkeys, or hams, but is equally effective at slicing through delicate fruits like melons or pineapples with ease. Its precision allows for thin, even cuts that are ideal for presentation, whether for a holiday feast or a casual weeknight dinner. The sharpness and balance encourage confidence, making the process of cooking more enjoyable and less labor-intensive.Overall, the HOSHANHO knife is far more than a simple kitchen tool—it is a carefully crafted instrument that brings together performance, beauty, and longevity. Its sharp edge, balanced weight, ergonomic handle, and thoughtful blade design set it apart from ordinary knives. With proper care, it promises not only years of reliable service but also the opportunity to become a cherished part of one’s kitchen and family traditions. For anyone seeking a knife that combines outstanding quality with exceptional value, this knife earns the very highest recommendations. It is a gift to oneself or to another that will be appreciated, used, and remembered for many years to come. Highest of recommendations!
This is s really great looking and well designed (aesthetically) knife. Almost razor sharp out of the box. Feels like a durable and good steel and materials used. Very large knife makes it a bit hard to hold and handle (but it depends on how youre used to holding a knife). Holding this knife like a sword feels great but if youre used to holding a knife in a pinch grip (like I do) or pointer finger on top of the blade, it may feel a bit awkward due to the size of this knife. But great slicer. I am a bit confused about the curved upwards point (as a slicing tool). But it's ok, still a great knife. I do feel that this knife is of great value.
