Know what to expect and you'll be OK...
Huusk Kitchen Knife Block Set Huusk knives are a hot topic on internet knife forums. Many reviewers and knife fans are incensed that a company based in Lithuania which manufactures its knives in China claims to be a source of Japanese knives. And it's right there on the box: "Huusk -- Japan."Huusk, meanwhile, claims their knives are Japanese style, not necessarily Japanese made. And people argue that point as well. But that's nothing to me because I didn't think these were fancy knives when I got them from Amazon's Vine program. I assumed they were starter quality in accord with their modest price, and they are.The tang on these knives is, in a sense, non-existent because the metal of the blade spreads out and becomes a hollow handle. So the knives are unibody: metal blade and handle of one piece.The steel is serviceable but not special. All we're told is that it's "high carbon steel" which it appears to be. It dulls easily, but takes a decent sharpness when honed.If you're looking to give a decent set of knives as a starter set to someone, these are a great set at a good price. That's why I give them five stars. They're not fancy. They're basic. They work.All I intend in this review is to review these as basic knives sold at a modest price. And as such, this is a great starter set for a young couple or a student going off to live on his own for the first time.

Nice for a starter set
The Huusk 15-piece kitchen knife set is a great starter set for anyone. Out of the box the set will have everything needed in the kitchen. Each knife is made from one piece of stainless steel. The blade of each knife is solid with very little if any flex. The edge is sharpened at about 15 degrees which will provide a sturdy yet sharp edge if the knives are maintained. Huusk has added to the side of the knife block a sharpener to help you maintain the edge angle and sharpness. There is no tang to consider since the knives are one solid piece. This is Huusk's basic set of knives but are very functional. At the current price, the set is definitely worth the investment.

Really light
Out of the box, this set is ready to go! I love that it is a complete set. It looks great, su ch a simple look but completely functional, the sharpener on the side is a great touch.The knives do feel light, but they do perform well, they are sharp and seem to resharpen nicely.They do rust really easily, so I’d suggest hand washing.

I really like this knife set. Everything in it is useful - its not like they add small stuff you wont use to the set to make it add up to 14 pieces. Everything in the set is something you will use at one time or another. The knives are heavy and feel very well made, these should last a very long time. I love the fact that the sharpener is on the side of the case so its super simple to use when you need it.Loving this set of knives so far, I don't love the light color of the storage block but that is just a personal preference thing. Great set of knives, definitely not worth $140 but in the $50 price range I think its a very good quality set.

Good Quality Knives
These are some really nice stainless steel kitchen knives. The blades are high carbon stainless steel, and have a 15 degree edge. They're really sharp, and easy to keep honed. I would exercise caution using the built in sharpener, and get you a honing rod to keep them razor sharp. Just two light swipes on both sides of the blade is enough to keep the edge nice and sharp. When I hone the blade of my knives, I use sound to determine the sweet spot. When your blade gets absolutely sharp, the blade will sing with a melodic chiming sound. Almost like a tuning fork.I highly recommend this quality knife set.

Good quality knives for a reasonable price.
First off, thanks to another reviewer, Nebti20, for pointing how that the "Japan" on these is suspect, as Huusk is a Lithuanian company manufacturing in China that makes Japanese "style" knives. I do not feel the packaging is very clear on this, and I do think they are trying to get away with implying the knives are Japanese. I removed a star for this, but, that said, these knives are far and away a huge improvement over my previous set of cheapies.This set has a really useful combination of knives---all razor sharp and fairly well-balanced (as long as you don't mind the hollow handles)---along with a nice block with a built-in sharpener (nice touch). I immediately niticed an improvement over my old knives, even though I had just sharpened them. So far, I'm very happy with the overall quality of these and I feel the price is reasonable for what you get. Are they Japanese? No...but they are sharp! And they are a far cry better than most of the junk you see in stores.
