Sturdy, retains moisture, fits over most bowls, & easy to clean

I recently ordered the JACYAO’S 10”/11” Reusable Beeswax Bowl Covers for Bread Proofing with Elastic Band. Like others, I began baking bread out of necessity during the grocery shortage of 2020. I fell in love with the process. A few years ago, I had a mishap with a family member ruining my sourdough starter after a long period of perfecting it. This incident led me to give up on sourdough for a while.Today, I’m back to making my sourdough and all of our family’s bread from scratch. I mostly alternate between sourdough and an artisan baguette. Previously, I used a couche to proof my shaped baguettes and simply placed a tea towel over my bowls fermenting in the fridge. However, I discovered that tea towels are not the most effective at retaining moisture, unlike the beeswax bowl covers.I came across beeswax bowl covers when I first noticed and started using the beeswax bread bags. I absolutely the bags, especially for freezing bread! I have yet to freeze a loaf of bread with a beeswax bread bag that comes out even with a single speck of freezer burn. Naturally, I decided to try the bowl covers next. These are my first set of beeswax bowl covers for bread proofing. I’m delighted that I chose JACYAO. Firstly, they are incredibly strong! They have a small loop on the top. I wish I had filmed myself doing this, but I had large sourdough loaves proofing in handmade rope bannetons. I could easily pick up the entire loaf and banneton by the loop on the top of the beeswax bowl cover, and it was incredibly sturdy. These are well-crafted, and the elastic is sewn in neatly. The pattern is charming, and the covers are easy to wash. I simply rinse them with cold water, reverse them inside out, and hang them from cabinet knobs overnight. Once they are thoroughly dry, I store my proofing/bowl covers in a freezer bag and tuck them into my bread cupboard. These are incredibly spacious, fitting fit almost any size bowl or banneton due to their elastic nature. My included picture of the four uncovered bannetons with dough is what I ended up using these covers on (taken prior to going into the fridge). These covers provide ample room for dough expansion while retaining moisture, which is my favorite feature. The four loaves I made last week, I had to use two clothe covers, but I lined those with saran wrap. Using these beeswax covers compared to the other covers was so much easier, plus I could easily check on the dough in the fridge. After using the two beeswax covers for the first time, I ordered two more. Unfortunately, I bought some on sale and they don’t have the little loop on top. However, I now have enough to use when I make four loaves, which is my usual quantity (or more). At the time of my review, December 2025, this set was priced at $18.99. I find this to be a very reasonable price. With proper care, I expect them to last me a lifetime. Most importantly, I will have superior bread compared to what I had before.

Great, just know what you are getting

I did not expect them to be like a cheesecloth. It is cotton fabric that is covered with beeswax. The end result is a vinyl or plasticky kind of a feel to it. So, do not expect soft fabric, but instead a shower cap kind of feel. The good news is that the beeswax works! It really does help for the rising bread dough to not stick to the fabric. Great to keep moisture and a tad bit of heat in when bread is rising in a bowl. Also, notice that they are two different sizes. The light colored cover is a tad larger than the orange one (see attached photos). As to the general design, you can see exactly what they are. A typical “kitchen” looking design with some sketches of various fruits, etc. Finally, just take note of how to clean them. In order for the wax to stay in-tact do not launder them in a machine. Just rinse under cold water and scrub a little if needed to get dough off if it sticks. Definitely allow the covers to completely dry before storing. The best part is the pull tab on the top! So helpful. In the end, I am happy to have these covers and will use them often instead of the typical plastic wrap or dish towel :)

Love these covers!!!

These are fantastic bowl covers! I used them on glass bowls to see how they would fit and they were perfect! They stretched nicely over the bowls. The larger bowl (I forgot to measure, but it is a 4qt I believe) looked like it would be too big, but it fit. The wax coating on the inside helps to keep moisture in and even create a bit of a seal around the edge. You have to handwash these because of the wax coating. The heat from the dishwasher will melt the wax. Also, do not put these in the microwave unless you want wax in your food. They worked great storing food in the fridge. No difference than my other containers. It would depend on if you want a perfect seal like Tupperware or if you want something that needs a lighter seal. This is just easier to take on and off without the hassle of plastic wrap or aluminum foil and no waste! Just clean with soap and water and air dry. If just the inside is dirty, just wipe clean with soap and water and dry.I also used one to help proof my bread just to see if it would work, and it did. I have seen some recipes and videos that suggest saran wrap or plastic bag if you don't have a tea towel, so I thought this might be similar. It did work very nice over my bread pan for the final proof before going in the oven.So I do highly recommend these! I am already using them and found them to be a great addition to my kitchen storage.
