Elegant and comfortable - 3 year update!!

Update: After 3 1/2 years of HARD daily use, I managed to crack a piece off of the handle and chip the very tip of the blade (not at the same time, but within a few weeks). Both occurred after the knife fell on a hard ceramic tile floor. Bear in mind, this knife was used daily and washed in a dishwasher pretty much daily as well. This blade always held a nice edge for a long time and sharpened right back up on a stone or steel. The knife is still functional, but I have a second one now. The old chipped one is going in the camper. FYI, the handle appears to be a hard plastic or micarta type material that's pretty durable considering the abuse I gave it. The blade never showed any signs of rust either, even after constant trips through the dishwasher. For it's price, I still consider this knife to be a STEAL and I would have no hesitation to buy another.Original review:I should have checked my measurements because I thought I was ordering a smaller knife. That was my mistake, which I realized when I opened the package and found this to be a full-size chef's knife. However, upon seeing and testing the knife, I couldn't even think of sending it back. Not at this price. No way. I don't even need another full-size knife, but I'm keeping it anyway.First off, it's razor sharp. I have no idea if it's genuine German steel (which is claimed and stamped on the blade), but it has a hair-splitting edge and after a week of use it's still as sharp as when it arrived. The handle is comfortable and ergonomic. The balance is fantastic, with a little bit of weight in the handle that you never find in knives this cheap. Last, it's beautiful. Forget arguments of form and function, this knife has it all. It is sleek and elegant, comfortable and ergonomic, and surprisingly inexpensive. In fact, I feel a little guilty wondering how a knife this good can be this cheap. Let's hope it holds up. If not, I will update.

Very good product for the price

This is the best chef's knife I've ever had -- I've always just used ultra-cheap stuff and put up with the dullness etc. This isn't the upscale knife that it would probably be nice to have, but it serves very well within its price category. There's a nice comfortable shape to the top of the knife just beyond the handle, so it's easy to balance. My only complaint is that it doesn't hold an edge for long, so I have to sharpen it frequently. But it does cut well and I'm glad I bought it. Also in case one is so inclined, it comes in an attractive package suitable for gifting, if wrapped decoratively.

Maybe The Best

I own several excellent knives for cooking but probably use this one the most because I find the Santoku design to be the best for making sandwiches (getting the Mayo out of the jar, slicing tomatoes perfectly etc.). It arrived well packaged and SUPER sharp, stays sharp very well and sharpens easily with my sharpening rod.
