Good quality and nicely fabricated
This SANMUZUO 5 inch kitchen utility knife is an excellent addition to a home kitchen. The Damascus powder steel blade is extremely sharp and makes clean, precise cuts on fruits, vegetables, and proteins. It feels professional quality right out of the box.The full tang resin handle is comfortable to hold and well balanced, which makes the knife easy to control during prep work. It has a solid, premium feel without being heavy or awkward. The craftsmanship is impressive, and the blade looks just as good as it performs. This knife is versatile and practical for everyday kitchen tasks and feels like something you would expect from a higher end brand. I am very happy with the quality and performance and would absolutely recommend it.
Thirty years ago, my husband invested in a high-quality set of knives that we have used ever since. Owning well-made knives that can be repeatedly sharpened, that are balanced, and that are aesthetically attractive has made what was once a seemingly exorbitant price well worth it over the years. This pink-handled knife is in the same category. Even though the pink plastic handle and the Damascus steel pattern on the blade combine to make it appear a bit garish, overall, I like the look and the feel of this knife. It is not only unique, but it cuts precisely and is sharp. The handle fits nicely into my adult female hand. It is not heavy, but not too light, either. This knife comes in a wooden sheath with a wooden pin to lock it in place. The sheath does not visually match anything about the knife’s character, but it works well to protect the blade and, in itself, is an attractive piece—made of a dark, smooth wood with no knots. As I write this review, the price of this knife is $96. It is a lot to pay for a single knife, but it is a quality item. I notice that this company offers sets of similar knives at a lower price per knife, by the way. These would make a lovely wedding present or a gift to a chef in the family.
As a new professional food prep trying to fill his knife roll at a small restaurant this knife works pretty well. It's easy to cut with and can be used more as a rocking nakiri. The prosI like the handle. It reminds me more of a "kintsugi" (Japanese method of fixing things with "gold glue" as a gross overstatement) style handle more then a pink handle with gold dust in it.I've always struggled a bit with the "accordion" style cuts instead of cutting straight through, this knife I can feel it cut all the weigh through and more importantly when it doesn't.One more good is the length. You see 6.5 and 7 inch nakiris and getting the extra half inch doesn't seem like much until you use it and find out you like it.The middle groundThe "hearts" of the blade are more or less as shown. I wouldn't pick up this knife and see them straight away but if you use your imagination or squint just at the right angle and they are there.Another middle ground for me is the sheath. It's plastic made to look like wood, nothing fancy but kind of a let down from there other lines that offer leather sheaths. Doesn't impact the knife but still to me worth noting. The consThe handle. Something about it being slightly wet makes it very slippery. Not sure if it's the material, the shape, or what exactly but if it's even mildly wet from just washing your hands and you missed a spot it will try to slip. It could be me but my other knives are also resin mixed with wood and the resin doesn't seem to have this issue.Another thing is food sticks... badly. With a lot of my other knives without the "food release divets" (a granton) I can just kind of flick the food off. This I have to slide off more then anything. Not anything super annoying if your at home, but going through a 20 pound bag of potatoes, or a 50 pound bag of onions and they stick is an issue. All things considered I think it's a great knife for home cooks or a knife you don't mind getting beat up. Just make sure it's on sale for the $50 something price.
