Heavy-Duty Kitchen Scissors That Handle Everything from Herbs to Bone
The ZORKIC Kitchen Scissors look good and are seriously solid and well made. They are a significant step up from traditional kitchen scissors, letting you do multiple tasks with one tool. The units measure approximately 100mm wide at the handles and are about 270mm long. The handle opening is large too, with the opening ranging from about 24mm to 36mm. Each of the two blades is 3.5mm thick, with nice surface ground and polished outer side, an inner side that is surface ground but not polished and a cutting area that is ground into the steel. One blade has micro serrations to assist in cutting. The blades are solidly bolted into the handles and have tangs that extend deep into the handles. There is a lightly serrated area on the blades just behind the pivot and two 10mm long “nut crackers” at the end of the handles. The handles appear cast, are smoothly finished and look nice. The blades are attached to each other by a nylon lock screw. Thus you can separate them for cleaning, sharpening or to adjust them. Overall these are heavy and serious working scissors. The handles are quite large, but that is to allow you different holds for different applications. For fine cutting, insert just your fingertips in the handle and your thumb to the first knuckle, and then rest them against the meat of your thumb area. With a hold like that you can finely cut spice leaves like cilantro with ease. If you need to do forceful cutting, then insert your fingers and thumb as far as possible and chop away. They will not open as wide with this type grip, but you generate significant force to cut through anything. You can’t do both if the grips are too small. These performed flawlessly in the kitchen. They chopped up chicken, cut meat smoothly, bit through bone easily and then cut up spice leaves into thin slivers. When done a hot water wash was all that was needed to get them looking good again. Once dry, I wiped them with some food grade mineral oil and buffed that off. I like doing that to give my steel kitchen tools a longer life. These are impressive looking and also impressively made. By changing your grip you can use them as delicate cutting scissors, or hefty meat and bone shears. These are not inexpensive kitchen scissors, but quality units that will perform well and give you years of service.
