Great little milk warmer and frother that is easy-care and portable!
I've frothed milk just about every way possible, yet have have only experienced a mini mechanical milk frother, such as this, once before at the home of a friend. I immediately wanted one and now I do. This one has some features hers was missing with six total modes, including heavy froth for milk or cream (my favorite) and other settings for cold milk, for warmed-only milk, low froth warm, and plant-based "milk."Additional features include the non-stick stainless interior that allows it to be quickly rinsed out with a mere wipe. The power cord plugs into a connector in the back that has a sealing cover to protect from water splashes during rinsing (see photo). The clear top allows you to see progress. And once you fill it to the right level, plug it in and scroll through the six settings to get to the one you want, you can take a couple of minutes to make your espresso so both are ready at the same time. Some great hands-off multi-tasking there!So, now, if you want the thickest foam for a 12- ounce or so latte as I just made, you would fill it with 4-ounces ofwhole milk or half & half for breve' (you can use any milk, but the more milk fat, the thicker the foam) and scroll to the icon for the thick foam. (You definitely need to see the figures in the manual and let the unit cycle through to learn which is which, but that one ends up being the last of six when cycling through in a clockwise direction-(not as complicated as it sounds).If you want to just heat milk or froth cold milk or heat & froth soy, oat, almond, or other plant-based "milk," there is a setting for that which I have yet to try.So, simple. But, DO figure out the markings for frothing maximal levels (the lower one) and that for mere heating (upper) because overfilling can be a real problem. No more than four ounces for frothing and a minimum of about 3 ounces regardless of setting. Now, one tiny negative, and that is that the inside with its great stainless interior is quite dark and one can really only feel, not see the markings until you put it under a very bright light (I used a flashlight as shown in one of the photos). Problem? Not really, as once you feel/see the markings once, it is pretty self- explanatory how full to fill it and where the maximum/minimum levels are.So, after pouring your milk/froth into your cup, just don't forget to plug the cover over the connector and do a thorough rinse. The frothing coil itself is magnetically "attached" to the bottom, making it easy to remove for a thorough rinse as well (don't forget to put it back!) The unit is really pretty small (3.6 x 7.9 inches) making it great for travel and while the cord detaches, there is no separate base to keep up with.While I can't speak yet to the results with plant-based "milk," I have every reason to think it will likewise excel. Based on my experience to date , I am quite pleased and recommend it fully.
