Knife holder with knives
Got this knife block for my mother for Christmas! She liked it. It's definitely interesting looking, the knives slide into a grate that fits into the top of the container. More of a knife holder than a block I guess. The knives were all very sharp, with multiple sizes, and they were a good value for the price.

Excellent value
First, the bad: The shears leave a lot to be desired. They struggled to cut kitchen twine and it took three tries to cut through it. The plastic feels pretty cheap (more on that with the good), and with all the handles being more or less identical, it's practically impossible to know which knife you're pulling from the knife block. I used the kitchen knife for a few different things, including carving a turkey, and there are scratches in the coating. Then, the good: these knives are light in the sense that they're easy to use for a long period of time without my hands being exhausted from holding them. I am very curious if the tang is the full length of the handle, but I doubt it. There are grips in the perfect space on the handle, on both sides, so these can be used either right or left-handed.I am new to good knives, and was very impressed. Slices of onion and celery so thin I could see through them, and the kitchen knife cut through the celery better than my mandolin or any other knife I have. The chef's knife doesn't have an edge for the full length of the blade, which I'm not sure if this is standard for that style knife or not, so I definitely preferred to use the kitchen knife. The bread knife and steak knives seemed to be a standard quality, and nothing in particular to write home about.I found the "block" to be a very creative solution. Using a wooded block can dull your knives, but magnetic knife blocks are expensive and take up space, or hanging them on your wall can be tedious. The block provides a series of spaces that the knives hang into securely, solving both the space and the dulling issue. I thought it would be top heavy and fall over, but that has not been an issue.Because I'm being asked, I did receive the full set.I'm not sure how long these will last and stay sharp with proper care (ie, don't put them in the dishwasher), but the value of these can't be beat, and, at the very least, would make a great starter set. For the price I expected something much worse than what I got, and was pleasantly surprised.

Good set of knives
What can I say, this is a very complete knife set. My first impressions of these were that the plastic handles felt good in your hand, but did lack a certain weight that I have become accustomed to over the years. As far as the blades, they're pretty sharp right out the box. The black coating on the blades makes cutting an easier chore. The bread knife is very sharp and had no problem sawing a perfect slice of sourdough off the loaf. The block itself it weird, there are these slits (see pic) that you just stuff the knives into.. no preassigned slot for each knife. It works fine I guess, just a little unorthodox is all. End of the day, they get the job done. There are also 4 steak knives for dining that cut well. Final result is.. meh. Good deal & value imo.

Missing scissors, otherwise ok
Things I like: most of the included knives have a good weight for the price, and it’s a good variety of knives for a small kitchen. I also like that the top of the knife block comes apart so you can clean inside (if you get crumbs in it, for example) and it’s compact as a set. But my set didn’t arrive with scissors at all, which was disappointing. The kitchen knife didn’t have the divots on the same side as shown on the box, which was weird. The handle of one knife also arrived scratched (not badly but I noticed it). I think I would spent another $20 to get a nicer set unless you’re really strapped for cash.

Horrible, Terrible Knife Set.
At first glance, and without too much inspection, this seems like a really nifty little knife set. The draw for me was the Santoku knife, since I didn't have one prior to getting this set. I've been kinda puttering along on a twenty-year-old "Miracle Blade" set that Hubby bought for me one year for Christmas, and I was hoping to retire it with this new set in my kitchen.Unfortunately, that won't be happening. My first, and original, beef with this was the cheap "block" that comes with it. There's no rhyme or reason to how the knives fit into this horrible little holder, but this was something I was willing to overlook if only the quality of the knives was good. Folks, it's not.The Santoku, the literal reason that I have this in my kitchen, has maybe three uses under its belt. Tonight, I tried to slice the top from an artichoke, a task that should've been quick and easy for a knife of this type. It made a small mark in one leaf. I didn't try another knife from the set, instead reaching for the old trusty MB serrated knife. Maybe asking it to cut an artichoke was a little too much to expect, so I moved on to slicing cloves of garlic. It couldn't even do that. This thing is dull, and therefore pretty darned worthless. I have no way to sharpen it.Next up, the 5" utility knife. Now, I wasn't using iron garlic. It's pretty soft as a general rule, so I had high expectations that a small utility knife could slice through garlic cloves. And it tackled about three before the plastic broke where the knife attaches to the handle. The culprit? The hard part of the garlic that most people lop off before slicing it. If a piece of garlic can break a knife, that should speak volumes to its quality, or lack thereof. The only decent thing about this set is the pair of shears that came with it. This might be, however, because I've only used it so far to open plastic bags and snip the ends off green beans. I'd hate to think of what might become of this set of shears if I actually used it for kitchen chores, like cutting chicken or harder veggies.Though your mileage may vary on this product, I can't in good conscience recommend it, unless, of course, you want a cool-looking kitchen paperweight. Save your money and buy a brand with a better reputation. You'll be thankful you did.
