My old grater from the 1930s was rusting out and sagging in the middle. This replacement is of great quality. Intersecting wires are welded where they cross, as well as around the edges. The grater is slightly narrower than my old grater, but this provides better rigidity at the center of the mesh. The wire gauge is thicker than my old unit as well. The cutting edges of the wires are oriented so that grating action is greatest on the forward stroke when grating on the top surface and in the upstroke of the bottom surface. Much faster than my old worn-out unit. Stainless steel construction should last for decades. Good value. I use to make Bohemian potato dumplings like great grandma used to make. Perfect results.

Great German quality
I bought this to replace my 2nd vintage Acme grater which I used to make my mom’s recipe for traditional potato pancakes. My original Acme grater broke after 30 years, the second after less than 5. They just don’t make them like they used to.....This is a very well made grater, sharp and sturdy. Its only drawback is that it tends to clog with potato fairly quickly since the mesh is smaller than my old Acme; other than that it’s excellent. Worth every penny.

Very nice potato grater / shredder
I purchased the Kuchenprofi Potato Grater / Shredder to make potato pancakes with. It works great. You get a very finely grated potato and they make very good potato pancakes. I like that it is not sharp so you don't grate your fingers when you get to the end of the potato like you might on a box grater. It gives you a much finer grated potato than a box grater also. I previously had a similar "old style grater" for decades, but one wire broke. I chiefly used the grater to push through hard boiled egg halves to make egg salad. Prior to purchasing, I checked the dimensions to determine the size of the squares. This was not mentioned, but the overall size was similar to my original. I received this product, and found that it was a true grater, with wavy sharp edges for grating. The squares were noticeably smaller than my original. I'm very happy with the grater being stainless steel, as it washes up well and should not rust over time.

Good quality little gadget
This grater creates perfectly textured potato pancakes. Much better than the regular supermarket variety graters. It does require some elbow grease, but the results are well worth it. Try this: Peel and grate 5 or 6 Yukon Gold, drain and keep the starch, grate or finely chop a medium onion, mix grated potatoes, starch, onion, 1 large egg and salt (we use 1/2 teaspoon coarse). Fry about 1/4 cup of flattened mixture portions in hot canola or vegetable oil. Flip once. Serve with sour cream.
