Just received it today. I immediately took it out of the package and washed it up as I do with any new cooking tool. I wasn't planning on using it tonight but dinner plans changed and I ended up making some mashed potatoes to go with some pork chops. I don't like to dirty dishes unnecessary so I used it to cut some butter off the stick instead of a knife, glad I did. In all my years of breaking in new products and knowing there could be factory residue left on tge product, I don't think I ever noticed any. But there was metal mark on my butter. So I got out a knife after all and cleaned up my butter I was adding, washed it a again and still had metal or lubrication oil coming off into my food. I washed it again and think I finally got it all. But at one point I had laid it into my potatoes and had to remove some of those. But after that situation, it mashed as it was described and seems well made, other then needing extra cleaning. So if you purchase one of these , just note it may need to be thoroughly scrubbed before first use. I don't know if this was a fluke but it definitely confirms that a new product should always be washed before first use. If anything changes I will either update, remove, or write a new review, whichever one is easiest. But it truly did just wiz through the potatoes.
I use this to mash beans and avocado. Works great. Nice and small so fits my dinnerware bowls. I would not use this for large dishes like mash potatoes since it’s so small.
As if this was custom made for my needs, which is mashing up one avocado at a time. Perfect size and quite effective. Residue washed off easily. My only issue is It seems a bit overpriced at $34.99, maybe they built shipping into the pricing? Or maybe I'm just out of touch with costs of crafting something here in the the United States, which I fully support, and therefore and willing to pay extra. Thank you! Also, I think it will be eggsaladent also... :)
It has a wooden handle so you can't just let it soak in the wash, but this is the kind of masher I want for potatoes.
The Lamson masher is smaller than most mashers, but the way the metal head is machined makes it mash better than other mashers. There are many cutouts in the head, with well-defined edges to cut into the potato to make fluffy potatoes quickly and easily. The handle is sturdy, big enough for big hands to get a firm grip, with a full tang running the length of it. I love the compact size for mashing avocado in a small bowl.
I bought this to use as a masher. For that purpose I'm sure it will work. Many people said it was small, and it is described as mini, but it is a bit smaller than expected. What is most disappointing is that it doesn't match its description otherwise. Its described as a riveted hardwood handle, and it is not as described. It's poorly stained, not riveted but nailed, and appears to be made of cheap wood. I have other Lamson utensils so this is incredibly disappointing.
