Cool drying rack
I have never worked with a Diatomaceous drying surface before. I initially thought this was a 'spread it around' style draining board. I did not realize that the slats actually absorb the water fairly quickly. It is pretty neat to see. Compare that to seeing a plastic drying board actually dry through evaporation it is a totally different world. Some water does seem to collect in between the slats, but I find it eventually gets absorbed into the sides of the slats so it is not so big a problem.I do think I would have preferred a larger mat, to hold more dishes. There are always more dishes. The mat dries faster than the dishes, so there is space to put stuff down that looks dry most of the time.Rolling up when not in use is useful to clean up the counter. So much easier than a big fixed form rack that has to be stored somewhere else, usually taking up quite a bit of cupboard space. This can fit into a small drawer instead.

Small drying area that may not dry itself
The concept of this drying mat is great. Right out of the box, I really like the look of it next to the sink. It's got a minimalist look that I appreciate. It comes with a large sheet of instructions (see pic), the stone "mat", and a thin plastic grip sheet. I have to say that initially I thought I had to remove the shiny film that was on the stone!! I peeled away about 2 inches off a corner before I realized that this was the backing that keeps the stones together! I wish the instructions explained this. I also assumed that the plastic grip was something I needed to place on my counter so this thing doesn't slide around. But again, no instruction about the purpose of it. The instructions do mention a lot of upkeep to the stone itself. It comes with a tiny sanding pad. The stone had a grey dust on it that I wiped off before use. It did a great job absorbing the wetness from the dishes I placed on it HOWEVER the gaps between the stone where the shiny plastic film is collects water and it just pools and sits there. I know that this mat is meant to roll up for storage and the gaps need to be there for that purpose but it kind of defeats the purpose if water will build up and spill onto the countertop. I think this is meant for small items that won't produce that much wetness that will pool in the gaps but for washing larger items like pots and pans, a traditional mat or dish drainer needs to be used.

Perfect for Small Kitchens & Apartment Living
We got this large stone drying mat for our daughter to use in her apartment when she moves off campus next year, but after trying it ourselves, I may need to buy another one because I love it.The diatomaceous stone absorbs water instantly and dries incredibly fast, leaving dishes clean and the counter completely dry. Unlike fabric mats, it doesn’t stay damp or get funky. The size is perfect for a smaller kitchen, and the foldable design makes it easy to store when not in use, which is a huge plus for limited space. The non-slip backing keeps it securely in place, and the stone surface feels sturdy and well-made. I also love that it’s food-safe and easy to clean—rinse or lightly sand if needed. Stylish, practical, and versatile enough to use beyond just dish drying.Excellent quality and a great gift idea for apartments, dorm transitions, or anyone short on counter space. Highly recommend.

Puddling in between the slats.
I love these diatomaceous drying mats. I have several and use them in different rooms where I need items to dry quickly with minimal bacterial or mold growth. Unfortunately, this is my least favorite. It is advertised as a large mat. However the dimensions given are usually applied to small mats. The slats are also narrower, leaving more room between them. This does not lead to quicker drying. I used this mat to dry few glasses and cups. I came back about an hour later and the items were dry, but there was water puddling on the clear plastic in between the slats. So I dried each slat and moved the mat into a bathroom. I have this mat partially folded and placed in an area next to a tub/shower where water often escapes onto the floor between the tub and vanity. I keep a folded towel in the area to aid in keeping the floor dry. This stone drying, mat folded in a specific way, catches the overflow. So, even though I don't want it around dishes, I am happy with its present use. Note: photos show the difference in size between "large" mats. You can also see the difference in areas between the slats.t to hand wash a few glasses
