I’ve always used a dish towel on the kitchen counter when drying things and thought I’d try a drying mat instead. This mat is great! It absorbs water quickly and keeps the counters dry as well. It definitely makes doing the dishes easier!
Mat works at water evaporating but any little mark shows and does not sand off as indicated. Buy a dark color!
Overall, I don't love it. Let me tell you whyFunctionThe stones can absorb water from the drying dishes. It's an interesting use of compacted diatoms to form the stones. The issue is that when they get dirty, they stain. The instructions say that you have to sand off stains and blemishes from the stones. I have tried washing them with soapy water, but the stains remain. I will not be sanding this mat to make it look clean.DesignThe mat is 24x16, and the stones are held together by a nylon netting glued to the bottom of each stone. Everything seems to be very secure; I would not worry about stones coming loose. The mat comes with a non-slip pad to place under it. This keeps the mat from sliding on the counter. At first, the mat looks great! As time goes on, the stains collect, and there's not much you can do about them.RatingI'm giving this drying mat 3 of 5 stars. I will eventually be moving back to the drying mats I was previously using that can be put in the washing machine.
