Very nice product (form + function)
I'm really happy with this microwave steamer bowl. It's much thicker and more substantial than expected, and it appears to be impeccably constructed. Can't detect any seams at all in the silicone. I got this in red, and it's a great color - not at all muddy like some silicone colors can be, yet not fluorescent or overly bright. The bowl is noticeably thicker and less pliable on the floor than on the sidewalls, almost like there is a stiffer material embedded inside (the way many sealed silicone utensils have a metal or plastic rod inside). But the packaging says it's made of 'platinum' silicone (which it says is a premium silicone) and makes no mention of other materials, so it could just be a hefty amount of silicone there.Functionally, this bowl does the job decently well, providing the promised steam and helping to keep food moist. You could achieve similar results using a small cup on a plate, but this is an all-in-one, and has been designed specifically for the purpose. It offers a better shape and design, with the cup tilting away from the food, and higher sidewalls than the typical plate. The steam appears to help reduce splatter, but depending on food, you might still want to use a splatter screen.I do wish the manufacturer had addressed the reported risk of superheated water when heating water in microwaves; it might be that the silicone material, something about the design, or the food nearby (vs just microwaving water by itself) mitigates this. For now, I'm putting a small non-metal utensil in the water reservoir as a safeguard (it's supposed to prevent the superheating, though that's just based on a bunch of online, seemingly credible sources).Given the bowl's surprisingly high sidewalls (I'd actually thought it was a plate when I ordered it!), it can also be used in other ways - e.g., to hold items when defrosting in the fridge or on the counter, or as a temporary lid in the fridge (you can then stack other food on top of it). It's also freezer safe, so I plan to use it to freeze berries and other small food items before placing in a freezer container. All in all, this is a great product. I'm especially happy about the nice quality, which has become increasingly hard to find.

Steams as Promised; Feels a Bit Gimmicky in Practice
Picked this up because I wanted a cleaner way to reheat leftovers and keep veggies from turning into rubber in the microwave. And sure enough, it does what it claims; the steam effect works well and it keeps food from drying out. But after a few uses, I’m not convinced it’s really better than just tossing a mug of water in the corner of the microwave like I’ve always done. The build is solid. The silicone is thick, flexible, and easy to clean. No weird smells, no chemical funk when you first use it, and it’s clearly well-made. I like that you don’t need a lid and the water hole design is clever, at least on paper. But here’s the thing; getting the food out of it once it’s hot is a little awkward. It’s shaped more like a tray than a bowl, which means if you’re reheating something like stir fry or a pile of veggies, you have to either eat out of the tray (which still has water in it from heating) or scoop it onto a plate with the grace of a caffeinated raccoon. Not ideal if you’re reheating something saucy or in small pieces. It also doesn’t really do anything magical. It uses water and heat, which is exactly what microwaves already do. I get that it keeps the steam closer to the food and might reduce overcooking in spots, but it’s not like it turned last night’s roasted broccoli into some perfect gourmet side dish. Just felt like a softer version of leftovers. That said, if you microwave things a lot and hate using multiple containers, this might earn a spot in your routine. It’s easy to clean, stores flat, and feels more purpose-built than just using a plate with a paper towel over it. But if you’re expecting some revolutionary steaming tech, this probably won’t blow your socks off. For me, it’s a novelty item that works fine but doesn’t really solve a problem I wasn’t already solving with a coffee mug and a microwave-safe plate.

Game-Changer for Quick, Healthy Microwave Meals
I absolutely love the Longtail Company Microwave Steamer Bowl! This is one of those products you don’t realize you need until you try it—and then you use it constantly. The innovative water-hole steaming system works amazingly well. I just add a little water, pop it in the microwave, and everything comes out evenly heated and perfectly moist. No lid needed, no splattering, and no dried-out food. It’s fantastic for steaming vegetables, reheating pizza (yes, it actually stays soft!), and warming frozen meals. The BPA-free premium silicone feels thick, durable, and high quality. There’s no weird smell, no warping, and it handles heat like a champ. Knowing it’s made from safe, non-toxic silicone gives me peace of mind for daily use.I also love how versatile and space-saving this tray is. It works for steaming, reheating, and defrosting, and it goes straight from microwave to dishwasher with zero hassle. The flat design makes it easy to store, even in a small kitchen.Cleanup is effortless—just toss it in the dishwasher—and it dries quickly. Plus, it feels great using an eco-friendly alternative to plastic containers or disposable plates.Overall, this steamer bowl is simple, smart, and incredibly practical. If you want fast, clean, and flavorful microwave cooking, this is 100% worth it. Highly recommended!

Seems a lot of money for what is really just a microwave-safe plate
This steamer bowl/cooking plate is made from BPA-free silicone, which makes it ideal for defrosting or heating a variety of foods in your microwave. It's dishwasher safe for easy cleanup.I have to confess, though, that I don't understand it. I used it as recommended to defrost a frozen sandwich, reheat a bit of pork chop and portions of lasagna, and to cook frozen veggies. I honestly could not tell the difference between using it with the recommended amount of water for steam and with no steam at all. To my taste, the results were the same. Not bad, but is it worth the money for what to my mind is just a glorified microwave-safe plate?
