This holds extremely well to a range hood just with magnets. It has a ratchet to slow down the rotation & give some resistance when tearing. It has a nice brushed-metal look. It's been working great for the past couple weeks.

Holds towel roll firmly. One hand operation to retrieve a single towel.
Magnet is strong enough to hold it to most metal surfaces. I found it held better on some vs others. My tool storage cabinet for example held really strong, I was worried about bending the door when I took it off. Also it held really well to my metal pegboard on my workbench. On a stainless steel table it wasn't as strong as I the steel tool cabinet but still worked.The magnet option is really nice for convenience. I haven't tried the supplied sticky mount option but it's a good option for where there isn't metal. I suppose you could also mount this with screws given the holes but it might be a little tight getting a screwdriver behind the rod. I'm still debating whether I mount this more permanently somewhere with the sticky mount or just move it around as needed. I kind of like being able to take the roll of paper towels with me in my shop depending on where I'm working. That's a feature that I hadn't really considered when ordering this.The one-hand style ratchet mechanism is a nice feature. We have as similar one in our kitchen now and I much prefer it over the plain rods. I'm almost always holding something in one hand so being able to rip off a sheet without the whole role coming with it is a great feature. It takes a little practice to learn the correct angle to tear it and when you do you won't pull this off whatever it's stuck to. The magnet is strong but you can still move it if you pull the wrong way. Our kitchen on is just a counter top with no mount so I've gotten experienced ripping off a sheet without moving the holder.I only tried this with standard rolls of paper towels and they fit great. It looks like it could fit the larger rolls but there's not a huge space between the rod and base so I would imagine there are rolls out there too large for this given how many sizes are available now.My only ding on this is the look of the metal itself. It's flat, brushed metal look with a rough surface like an orange peel. I would prefer a shiny cleaner glossy look. However that's a minor complaint. Otherwise this is an excellent, surprisingly well featured paper towel holder for the money.
Very handy. Clears some counter space
I was hoping the magnet would be much stronger. The paper towel holder works as described but it can easily be moved around or accidentally pulled off of the refrigerator because the magnet is not very strong.
