Most people belief you've got to refrigerate butter or margarine, but it's not true, at least in the short term. I keep two sticks of salted butter in my butter dish on my countertop all the time and no spoilage. Lovely and beautifully functional and versatile
I like everything about this lovely and beautifully functional butter dish! There's a generously sized base that's a substantial piece of ceramic with rounded edges that will help keep it from chipping and extend its life, a speckled cream and terra cotta color that I think gives it a homey farmhouse feel. The tight-fitting bamboo lid is lined with a silicone seal and even comes with an extra seal for just in case, and has a cleverly designed groove for the little spreader to be handily stored and finger spaces to pick it up easily. It's nice for keeping butter in the fridge too as we do since it's distinctive and easy to spot. And versatile: I can see this as a great container for soft, spreadable cheeses or humus too. Well made and a good value. Would made an original, practical gift.

A worthy throne for my Kerrygold butter
My favorite thing about this collection from Malacasa is the speckled cream colored ceramic paired with the deep terracotta. It’s a lovely detail that goes beyond the basic white ceramic that's everywhere. I'm a huge fan.This is a wonderful butter keeper. We’re guilty of always leaving butter out since we cook every meal and eat a lot of bread. While we don't really have issues with butter going bad, it’s nice to finally have an airtight container to keep it fresh. Nice looking ceramic butter dish that's kinda pricey
I've struggled with what to do with butter for most of my life. I have boxes of 4 bars in my freezer and fridge, but I've always struggled to find a container that worked in the fridge, on the counter, and on the kitchen table. This MALACASA butter dish is my latest attempt.The butter dish is much wider than I am used to, being designed for a larger stick of butter than I'm used to, but better to be too large than too small! I am used to butter dishes that have a flat bottom plate, and some sort of a dome, so when you remove the top, you can slice down the side, like cutting a loaf of bread. This dish is the opposite - you remove the flat top and reach down into the bowl-like bottom and scrape butter off the top of the stick. I don't expect this to be that big of a deal, but it does take some getting used to.Also different from other butter dishes I've had, this one has a rubber seal on the lid. This should keep the butter fresher for longer.The ceramic dish is thick and substantial. It also looks great on my kitchen table. It also fits perfectly in my fridge door's butter compartment.One drawback of this butter dish is that, due to the rubber seal on the lid, it takes two hands to remove the lid -- you can't just lift it off with one hand. This is a small price to pay for keeping the butter fresh.One random thing you'll see in my photos -- there was a round silicone washer included in my package that doesn't seem to have any purpose. Not sure if this was a mistake, or if there is some function for it that I just can't figure out.The only concern I have with this butter dish is that it's price is a bit high -- there are lots of similar options available for half the cost. While this is a well made butter dish, it isn't clear why you'd pay so much more for it.
