This worked well on my friends double chocolate sourdough bread. It was easy to use and sliced evenly to your desire. The only downside is it takes up a lot of counter space.
This is my favorite find of the year. I bake my own sourdough sandwich bread in loaf pans and use this to cut it! The little dial to adjust thickness is great. It is super easy to use and perfectly cuts the bread- no squishing or tearing. It suctions to the counter and stays put making it even easier to use. I struggle cutting bread uniformly or straight with a bread knife but with this rotary cutter I have no issues at all!
We bake most of our bread and I admit I am not the best at cutting even slices. I have good knives but my sizing is inconsistent. This fixed that. So yes understand this is a blade with an edge like your knives are so just like them you have to treat it as sharp. You do manually move the bread through the cutting plane but unlike a meat slicer you're rotating the blade so you aren't being pulled into the cutting edge. The serrated edge cuts even softer bread just fine as long as you aren't forcing it through, make sure the blade is getting good rotations when you advance the bread. The adjustment for width is easy, it's basically the same mechanism as using it on my meat slicer.Visually the whole thing has a nice look to it, given the size it's likely to be left out on a counter so it's nice that it doesn't look like a plastic block. It's about double what I pay for good knives but if you're making a lot of bread and consistent size for your slices matter it's worth it if this lasts. With the simplicity of the parts it should do just fine especially if you can resharpen the blade.
The bread slicer is well made and looks nice, which is important since it's probably going to sit out on the counter most of the time. It slices bread evenly and easily. If you bake bread all the time and struggle to slice loaves evenly with a knife, this would be something to consider. However, I have some safety concerns - unlike a deli slicer, you have to push bread through this by hand and there's no sliding tray. So it's much easier to slip and push a finger into the blade. The blade is hand-cranked, so there is some safety there, but it also means that you have to do two things with both hands, making mistakes more likely. Cut resistant gloves are probably a good idea when using the slicer.Overall, I am not sure I'd recommend this except for special circumstances - it works well, looks nice, and is sturdily built. But it's also expensive, takes up a lot of counter space, and has safety concerns.
This manual bread slicer arrived fully assembled and ready to use. The four suction cups on the bottom secure it to my countertop like it is glued in place. The slicer is easy to use and you can adjust the knob to change the thickness. This is a great quality product!
This is basically a toy or conversation piece. It works great with soft crust breads but has trouble finding purchase on hard crusts. Once it does find purchase on a hard crust, it squishes it into the board as it cuts since the blade is not quite doing its job. The one I received is also super squeaky. Compared to other similar products, this one costs about 10% more than other generic competitors seemingly selling the same thing exactly. I also do not like the suction cup legs. They make it incredibly hard to move the item. It will stay in place as you use it but there is little reason for it to be sliding around in the first place since it does not have a motor jostling it. Large rubber feet/pads would have kept it in place while still allowing it to be easily moved around as needed.
