Nice puck, helps keeps the machine clean

This is a review of MEION 53.3mm Espresso Puck Screen-3 Pack 0.2mm.I have been using this puck screen for about a month now, interchangeably with its 0.8mm version. The build quality is great, the surface feels smooth with no rough edges, and easy to clean. The material seems durable and pretty sturdy. Given how thin it is, it is a bit flexible, but I'm not afraid of it getting deformed or damaged. It fits well in the stock Breville double basket, or the Capfei 54mm 18mm basket that I also use it with.Compared to the 0.8mm version, it doesn't have the same "bottom" pattern, but I've not noticed any significant difference in performance.Overall, if you have only barely any space above the puck in your basket, this might work for you.

More coffee! Not as easy to clean.

Recommended for meticulous baristas (aka bakers). Not recommended for not so meticulous mums like me (cook to taste).I was very excited to try these espresso puck screens - mine was a little thick (1/16” = 1.59 mm), so I felt like I was giving up precious coffee space for the screens. Even so, puck screens in general were worth it to me, because it does keep my espresso machine clean. The test:Holy cow - these things are suuuuper thin. Like to a point of almost flimsy. They barely take up any room in the portafilter - and I did pack a little more than 2 grams of coffee 😂 than I normally could. Puck came out solid, coffee had beautiful crema 🤘.I was also quite pleased/relieved that the designs were a lot more subdued… I was not a fan of the printed designs. But, they are only just noticeable - enough to tell which side is up and which side is down. 👍As for the cleaning. I normally rinse and once in a while scrub my screens (to include my cold brew basket). Every time if there are grounds that are stuck on the screens after use, they float off when I rinse them or soak them in water. I’ve never had to pick grounds from the screens before, but that’s kinda what I had to do with these screens. I probably pulled four or five shots before I figured out it was a bit of user error.Maybe… I didn’t fill the basket all the way, so some of the grounds floated topside of the screen. Maybe some of the grounds got on the machine for the next pull. Maybe, I didn’t clean off the sides of my portafilter before the pull, and the grounds were on top of the screen. Whatever the case, there were grounds that were getting pushed through from the top and getting stuck. So I tried one last pull - screen upside down. If the screen truly was narrower on one side than the other, I should see a difference in how the grounds were stuck. Nope. Just like every other pull… I still had to pick at the grounds that were stuck individually (for about a minute) to get them dislodged. I did notice that once dried, the ground come off much much easier. 🤨Bottom line: for those who measure their grounds precisely for each and every shot, who brush, tamp, and brush again, who spend more time preparing/cleaning than your machine warms up, get this! It won’t impact your routine. But… if you aren’t as discerning and like things easy… 😏 get it for your meticulous friends 😂

Excellent accessory for espresso makers

This three-pack of puck screens is a nice little tool for making espresso. I was tired by the mess of grounds getting all over the kitchen and now that I have these, there is less spillage and easier clean-up. I think they prevent the grounds from getting the sprayer head dirty and they seem to create a more even distribution of hot water through the puck. I've been using them for every brew and I'm going to keep using them. They are easy to use - just drop it onto the puck and easy to clean with a quick rinse. Well worth the effort.

MEION 51mm Puck Screen-3 Pack-0.2mm Ultra Thin Espresso Puck

I really like these. First, I should say they are very thin and lightweight. While I am not sure they will hold up as long as the others I am using, I have to say that they may have partially solved a problem my somewhat generic espresso machine has with leaks around the portafilter. I say that because the water seems to flow easier/freer through these than the other puck screen (water flows easier when simply rinsing them and the amount of water leaking around the portafilter is greatly reduced with these). So far, I am very pleased with them, additionally, if they are to be given as part of a gift... they come in a small attractive box as opposed to how many puck screens simply come in a plastic bag (and yes, the individual puck screens are in plastic Ziploc bags inside the box). All this being said, they are not inexpensive, but then to prolong the life of your espresso machine and get a good extraction... I think it is worth the price because it is not outrageous or anything. When these wear our or if I get a different espresso machine, I will consider this company for my next puck screens.

Very thin screens to protect your portafilter

So I have been using puck screens for a while. The advantage of a puck screen is to keep the bottom of the portafilter clean. It's also supposed to promote even water flow, but I don't see that. The one I have looks like a stainless steel sponge, This is a ,2mm piece of stainless, into which tiny holes have been drilled. It's about 2 mm thick and it does a good job of keeping the portafilter clean. These are very thin (.2mm). The reason they are this think is to allow you to fill the basket to the top with coffee. I have a deep bottomless portafilter, so these ultra thin filters don't really have any advantage for me. as a matter of fact, they are a disadvantage because they are pretty fragile and can be easily bent. If you don't need the headroom, stick to the thicker more durable screens.
