VASTLY superior to the second best option.
This is a true modern design masterpiece. I expect it will be in some museums. (Really.)I’ve been a fan of the “second best” ice cream scoop for years. (Zyliss) So much that I have bought them for friends and family. Typically they would last about 5 or so years before the plating begins to flake off of the aluminum head. Also, the plastic handle would start to crumble away. (See photos) This time around I did some searching to see if I could find something even better... I am SO glad that I did! This is a vastly superior thing! It’s slightly heavier than the Zyliss, but in a pleasant “solid feel” kinda way. Anyone who claims this is too heavy probably cannot pick up a pint of ice cream without difficulty. No one should be so excited about an ice cream scoop, but I assure you: if you appreciate quality, you will enjoy the feel of this amazing instrument in your hand. The ease of use is truly remarkable. There are no cracks or corners to trap gunk, so it is very easy to clean (or throw in the dishwasher). The ergonomic design truly feels great in your hand and really does require less effort to use. This is something that will last longer than you do. I’m happy to say that the obsessive nut who created this work of art deserves a big hug. There is truly no room for improvement on this product. Yes, it’s expensive for an ice cream scoop. Consider the “price per use” and pleasure in using a quality tool , and it becomes a true bargain for something that your grandchildren will give to their grandchildren. The ONLY downside is that it may lead to increased ice cream consumption, but it is worth the risk.

Better than conventional scoop, crazy robust, beautiful to look at
As soon as you see the Midnight Scoop box, you know it's something special, and that continues when you open it - it's packaged more like a decorative stainless steel sculpture than a kitchen utensil. This is appropriate, because it really is the most aesthetically pleasing object in my kitchen - I keep it in a drawer, but it looks so good it might be nice to have a wall mount for it. However purpose-driven its design might be, the end result is a beautiful piece of sculpture with great utility. Two things strike you when you pick this scoop up - it is HEAVY (3/4 lb.) and it sits in the hand rather oddly. To use effectively, you need to hold it much closer to the end of the handle than with a conventional scoop so that the curve at the end fits properly in your palm. At that point the intended ergonomics come into play, letting you hold your wrist straight and push the pointed end of the scoop into the ice cream with your arm and even shoulder. This still puts some compressional load on your wrist, but nothing like the torque you experience using the most common "premium" liquid filled scoop design. Even so, I don't see this being great for the arthritic, frail, or small of stature given its heft - I've become scooper in chief around here as my wife finds it a bit much to handle. While ergonomics is given as a key selling point (perhaps the MAIN point), I think that's going to depend on the user - and you definitely do NOT want to drop this on your foot.I have no doubts about this utensil's durability - I saw one reviewer anticipating it would be regarded as an heirloom to be passed to favored descendants, and honestly, I doubt they were even half kidding. A single solid chunk of steel with a few decorative stars on the top side and gripping ridges on the bottom of the palm grip, the Midnight Scoop appears as a physical manifestation of the word "durable". For at least as long as you can lift it, this is going to be your last ice cream scoop.I do want to note that as impressive an object as this is, it's not perfect. Aside from the mixed bag of its considerable heft, I think the "ready to attack hard pack ice cream straight out of the freezer" messaging leans a bit toward hype. It can definitely push into hard ice cream more easily than competitors, but there's no magic to it, and you'll probably still want to give the ice cream several minutes on the counter or seconds in the microwave before going at it, just not quite as long as its peers. That said, this is a wonderfully satisfying piece of hardware to behold, to hold, and to use. It merits five stars because there is literally nothing like it, and I truly believe innovation and obsessive design of this caliber deserve to be rewarded. I'm sure knock-offs of some variety or other are bound to come along, but the Midnight Scoop's inventor and purveyors are charging a fair price for an extraordinary and beautiful object. If the idea of this intrigues you, I can't imagine the reality will disappoint - highly recommended.

Worth every $!
Best scoop ever made. Nice weight and balance. Broad base of handle is super comfortable and easy to apply pressure. Shovel is scalloped which makes it easier to start scooping, and scooping... and scooping. ;-) The quality of the metal is outstanding. I use it all the time and it looks as good as the day I took it out of its fancy box. It's a pricey indulgence, but I never regret quality.
