The dinnerware are absolutely beautiful.!
This is my third set of French Countryside in 40 years. I have always loved the pattern and it holds up beautifully. Although it is no longer produced in Japan, the quality remains high.. They arrived extremely well packaged and padded, though the weight caused several of the bread plates to arrive broken. BUT - be careful from whom you purchase Mikasa. When I first checked, Amazon was out of this pattern so I went to the Mikasa website and ordered the place settings and a set of soup bowls. The bowls were made in Malaysia and contained no flaws. The place settings were made in China and EVERYONE of them had a flaw! Some were minor but many were such that I would not even classify the dishes as seconds: variations in color, black marks beneath the white glaze, huge drips in the underglaze, uneven patterns. They were completely useless to me. In order for Mikasa to pay for the return shipping of such shoddy merchandise, I had to send them photographs of each and every piece for their approval! On top of that, their customer service was horrible and the emails from them treated me like an imposition. The packing boxes for so incredibly damaged that it took THREE rolls of tape to make them sturdy enough for the post office to accept them. I learned my lesson and will only buy any future dishes from Amazon. As mentioned above, there were several dishes that were broken but the return and refund were very easy with their provided shipping labels. And no questions asked, much less a third degree.
This is a great dinner set. I love Mika’s and this set has endured. So many get discontinued. I gave my set to my dil when I downsized. She wanted to add place settings as she entertains a lot. I got 2 boxes for her Christmas. She was pleased. Plenty of great beautiful dishes. And white is a great choice if you have to add serving pieces at some event. I quit buying patterns.
These are not white but more of an off white/ slight cream color. At first that was annoying but these plates are holding up so nicely that you should overlook that if it goes with your kitchen decor. They don’t get hot to the touch in the microwave like IKEA plates can. Thus far they’ve been chip resistant. There are some utensil scratches on the surface after a few months use but nothing crazy yet.
My wife has strong opinions and she says: I bought a few sets of this one several years ago and I absolutely love this set. So naturally I bought another set but when we unboxed them I immediately noticed that1.) heavier2.) difference in color; dingy grey white color3.) plate is so deep it doesn’t fit in my dishwasher and don’t stack well with the rest of my platesIn the video I show these differences and then based off of the other one star reviews of the extremely scratched up ones, I believe this set I got is not actually ceramic. In the picture I show the difference in the label, the one on the right is the one I have had for years and the one on the left is new; there are differences in the label too.Needless to say, I am pissed off 😡
I received a set of this dinnerware as a gift from my mother when I moved cross country a few years ago and didn't want to ship my mishmash, goodwill-purchased set of dishes I had acquired in my young adult life. The plates and cups have held up remarkably well since. I really like the set: the plates cups and bowls are attractive without being pretentious or frilly - a quality admirable to a young man who sometimes likes to entertain. The plates and cups are quite durable, but my bowls have suffered from my particular habits. They have each accumulated chips and cracks from me preparing my breakfast; when I scoop plain yogurt into these bowls, I like to flick off the excess yogurt on my spoon by gently tapping it against the edge of the bowl before scooping out a spoon full of honey. Over the many years of doing this, most of my bowls have suffered at least some damage. After entertaining guests recently, I was embarrassed by the state of my bowls and decided to buy a new set. I was pleasantly surprised at how affordable an entire dinnerware set was, so I bought a full set instead of just buying the bowls. I highly recommend the purchase. Though i took off a star for durability and sturdiness, I think that probably has more to do with my unique habits than the quality of the bowls.
This is Ironware weight, we are great with this but remember it’s not melamine weight. There is a good selection of matching items such as bread plates and platters
