Very sharp and look nice
Quick shipping. Knife packing was done properly as well. So knife was perfect. Very sharp out the box. Beautiful clean knife.
This is the best knife. It stays sharp and handles well. I bought this because My daughter has one and it was always sharp. In fact I liked it so much I bought my Granddaughter one for Christmas last year. I like it much better than my expensive Wusthof knives. It is a must have in the kitchen.
I do love this knife, and it is extremely sharp, but it is not a true Santoku knife. A Santoku knife is flat on one side of the blade, and the bevel of the blade is only on one side. The purpose of having a one-sided bevel is this contributes to the sharpness of the knife and it also makes cuts more precise. Although the average home cook wouldn't care too much about the precision of a cut, one does have to wonder why to choose this knife over a Chef's knife that also has a double bevel.Personally, I have both the 8" Chef's knife and this Santoku knife in this brand. Both knives are extremely sharp and the thickness of the blades are the same. Everything about these knives is the same except the 8" Chef's knife is longer and has more curve at the end of the blade. Both knives work equally well for cutting meats and veggies, but I do prefer the Chef's knife for most chopping tasks. The extra curve at the end of the blade on the Chef's knife makes chopping onions, garlic, and herbs much easier. Although I do love both knives, I would definitely choose the Chef's knife over the Santoku knife if I had to make a choice. As for the metal composition of the Misen knives, it is the best. They are all a high carbon steel of AUS10 steel that holds the sharpness longer than other blades. I have a few of the Misen knives and they are comparable in quality to the more expensive knives I have at a much lower price.I do recommend the Misen knives, and hope this review was helpful for you.
I really prefer expensive knives with better steels, but a recent divorce has caused me to rethink some aspects of my life. I bought the Misen as a stop-gap knife, and it has subsequently become me my regular to-to.The things that make this knife great:- Solid steel that's easy to maintain, both in terms of cleaning and in terms of edge maintenance- Sharp immediately out of the box- Well-balancedThe things that could make this knife better:- More ergonomic handle- More grippy handleI've used Shuns from the early 2000s, and before that I had a full set of Victorinox Fibrox knives, so I've had both inexpensive and wonderful and entry-level luxury. The Shuns have a much better handle, but cost twice as much. The Fibrox handles are much more grippy, and while bigger, they're more comfortable. These are solid knives for their price point, and are more than sufficient for anyone, really. The rule of diminishing returns applies. This knife is 8/10ths of my best knife experiences, and the last 20% cost well over 5x the price of the Misen knife.Just life Misen's cookware punches way above it's price, so to does their Santoku. If you're looking for a first nice knife, or are simply upgrading from the knife set you got for your wedding, Misen should be part of the discussion, if not the outright decision.I don't give five star reviews easily -- a product has to be life-changing to get that fifth star, much life the law of diminishing returns. While the Misen Santoku does not rise to life-changing, it's a solid four start blade.
The Misen knife was recommended by a friend and as a professional baker and someone who cooks everyday, I am extremely particular about the tools I use in the kitchen. The Santoku arrived and it was immediately obvious that this was a masterfully engineered, simple and effective piece of cutlery, which arrived beautifully packaged and was itself quite attractive, from the seamless construction to the cornflower blue color. I used it to slice onions first and it delivered paper thin slices effortlessly. This is a knife I’ll surely have for decades to come, so the spend was absolutely justified, and when compared to other high end knives on the market, it’s just a no brained to go with Misen. It feels great in the hand, light and sturdy and brings a bit more joy back into the kitchen.
Great knife for cutting up chicken and vegetables
