Minimalist Stone Coasters That Actually Absorb and Look Good Doing It
This diatomite stone coaster set does exactly what it claims and does it well. The hexagon shape gives it a modern, design-forward look without feeling trendy or gimmicky, and the natural stone finish fits cleanly into just about any space. Functionally, these are true absorbent coasters. Condensation from cold drinks disappears quickly instead of pooling, and the surface dries fast enough that you are not left with soggy or streaked marks.Pros• Excellent absorption thanks to diatomite stone, noticeably better than cork or ceramic• Protects furniture effectively, no water rings or heat marks from daily use• Non-slip backing keeps the coasters in place on smooth surfaces• Heat resistant, works for both hot coffee mugs and cold drinks• Modern hexagon design that looks intentional and clean on a desk or table• Good value at under $20 for a set of four stone coastersCons• Hand wash only, not dishwasher safe• Stone material can chip if dropped, so a little care is neededBottom LineThis is a well-executed coaster set that balances form and function. The absorption is the real standout, but the design is what makes them feel like a permanent part of your space rather than a disposable accessory. If you want coasters that actually protect your furniture and do not look like an afterthought, this set is an easy recommendation and earns a full 5 out of 5 stars.

Newer techier stone
I ordered the hexagon, moonlit slate option. I wish they had a charcoal or black color option. The hexagon shape gives these coasters a modern, geometric style that has a different feel than regular round coasters. They are super light and not heavy at all.Have you heard of diatomite material before? I hadn’t really ever heard of that material. Supposedly it’s a newer "tech" type of stone. I had to look it up, to make sure these would actually work well. So what I found out is that the diatomaceous earth material is made of fossilized algae 😮. It’s supposedly super absorbent and fast drying. When I took the first video you can see that these ones absorb very well, but they do not show the ring drying up super quickly. Maybe, because it didn’t have too much water on the can and it was already pretty faded..? It’s going on 30 minutes, and the ring that you see in the video is still there. It’s looking like it’s fading, but it’s still there. Fast forward, it took about a hour for the ring to completely go away. The second video is of me throwing water on it so you can get a visual of the performance both times. When I threw water on it, it was drying quickly. It smells chemically, I don’t know how to explain it. It’s not really strong and you can only smell it when you put your nose to it.I’ve used these casters for my extremely hot teas and the material has been taking my really hot mugs well. I have these coasters on my laminate wood table and they’ve been protecting the wood surface from heat rings. These are good, but I think I like the sandstone better, because of how heavy sandstone feels compared to these. I think there are others out there with this same material that might be heavy, but just know these particular one are extremely light weight.

Water goes all the way through
The coolest thing about these is how they absorb water, rather than letting it sit until it evaporates. I have a bathmat that works the same way.But unlike my bathmat, these let the water soak all the way through, becoming visible on the other side. That is, on the side that is supposed to be protecting your table or other surface from water. So they protect from most of the water, but not all of it.I tested that with a little more water than you would expect to get from condensation on a glass, but not much more. Which tells me that these should have some kind of waterproof seal on the bottom. I know that would make them less elegant, but function should precede form.I would be okay using them with tables that have a water-proof finish (like polyurethane), but if there is a surface that shouldn't get wet, I wouldn't use these to protect it.Also, because of the color and texture, they pick up dirt and dust easily; you can see it clearly; and it's not easy to remove. The slate ones might be better about this.If they worked better, they'd actually be worth their relatively high price. As it is, they're not really even worth keeping, unless I decide to seal the bottoms.

Unique and functional absorption coasters
Really impressed with these coasters. The hexagon shape gives them a clean, modern look that actually adds to the table instead of looking like an afterthought. They’re super lightweight but still do a great job protecting the surface from both cold drink condensation and hot mugs. Water doesn’t just sit there, it soaks in and dries out without leaving rings all over the place. Although the only downside is, if you have something that's very wet, it may not dry quick enough to not go all the way thorough the coaster. The backing is not exactly non slip but it stays in place and the texture keeps it from sliding around, which is a nice. You do have to be a little careful since they’re stone and not dishwasher safe, but for everyday use they work great and look good doing it. Definitely a solid set for the price.
