I have a similar style peeler, just a different brand that lasted Years. It finally broke apart and I have been looking for a replacement. I've tried assorted styles. The 'T'shaped, the ergonomic handle etc. But I'm either stuck in my ways or just found this design comfortable and simple. Why improve a good thing? I bought a 5-pack, and this is going to last me the rest of my life unless I'm convinced to part with one or two as a gift.
VERY poor product, nothing at all like the originals I had for years that disappeared when I needed them. The first one was broken even before I used it, the second one broke as I was using it, the third one was made from EXTREMELY soft metal and warped out of shape so I couldn’t use it the fourth one I need to push the blade down on the center rod because it won’t stay in place while I’m using it so I don’t think it will last much longer. I haven’t used the last one but I don’t think it will be much better than the first four. All were made from very thin, soft material, not the strong material that was used for the original ones years ago that lasted for years. Definitely not worth the price or frustration.
The "Mudder 5 Pieces Vegetable Fruit Peelers Stainless Steel" is a great 'old school' traditional peeler, and still available today for only $1.60 each on Amazon. Previously used a similar peeler but with a rubber coated handle, being more comfortable than a peeler without the coating, unfortunately, after a couple decades of use it broke. Looked for a similar rubber coated handle on Amazon, but to no avail. To improve the comfort of these Mudders, added heat shrinkable tubing over the handle and heat-sealed in place. The peelers are now super comfortable, and with the 5-pack, should last for many more decades. Mark V.
You simply cannot beat the deal! I've tried 2. Used for a couple of times and still have quite so life left. They seem to be starting to get a little dull but thats ok considering we have peeled more than 40lbs of potatoes and lots of veggies and fruits.Would most def recommend and would def buy again considering the $ for 5 of them!
I have found that "fancy" peelers - with rubber grips, bulky plastic covers, and countless features - are really annoying when you need to peel something large. This is especially true when they're the "bow" style with a curved plastic piece enclosing the blade; as soon as the diameter of your vegetable is larger than that bow, it's next to impossible to peel.These work great, though, I can peel massive sweet potatoes easily. They don't get in the way. They stay sharp. And, of course, they're also cheap as hell.Unless you've got arthritis or something making the small handles difficult, I really recommend staying simple with a peeler, and these are as simple as it gets.
WHEN MY KITCHEN AID ONE BECAME DULL I FOUND THIS. APPEARED TO BE A GOOD DEAL AND I BOUGHT IT. WELL IT'S NOT ANY SHARPER THEN MY DULL KITCHEN AID. I'LL KEEP IT BUT STILL WILL BUY A NEW KITCHEN AID PEELER.
