Food Safe, Large, Set of 2 with 2 Spoons too
Food Safe. The bowls have no lawyer or smell of any kind right out the package. Not coated with anything. Natural coconut shells. My husband is Hawaiian and to use bowls like this is from his ancestor's ways. He was in love with these bowls and couldn't wait to eat poke and poi out of them today. I washed them lightly with soap and rinsed a lot, then immediately towel dried and coated with a thin layer of olive oil, then wiped away excess with paper towel. They are deep brown and gorgeous. There are no sharp edges. The bottoms have even been sanded so they sit flat on table. It feels like someone was making these for their own family with love and care and thoughtfulness instead of quickly mass produced as novelty items. The wooden spoons are real wood and hand carved too, each one a little different just like the natural bowls are. The spoons have a smoked wood smell to them and are also unfinished. I would assume the smoke cured them and hardened them so they could withstand heat and liquids and washing without swelling or cracking or taking on orders and stains of food served. Large size coconuts used. Smooth inside and out. No rough cut tops and no residue or grit inside. No splinters or sharp edges.Beautiful heirloom quality set of two. I would not put them in the dishwasher ever, and not let them soak in the sink. Wash promptly when done eating and towel dry. A little coat of olive or coconut oil once in awhile will help the bowl and then spoon stay high quality and smooth for years to come.
